Clermont, Fla. (3/14/17) The Dominican College softball team lost a non-conference double-header to Southern New Hampshire University in game played today at the National training Center.
With the losses, the Lady Chargers fall to 3-4 on the season.
Game One: The Penmen scored runs in the second and fourth innings to claim a 2-0 advantage. The Lady Chargers got on the scoreboard in the sixth stanza as Samantha Fitzgerald (Fishkill, N.Y.) hit a run-scoring double to left field to bring home Taylor Gilligan (Medford, N.J.).
Catcher Emily Luzetsky (Bel Air, Md.) went 2-2 in the game.
Pitcher Desiree Joines (Stewartstown, Pa.) took the complete game loss (0-3), allowing two runs on six hits.
Game Two: SNHU used a four-run third frame to jump out the lead. The Lady Charger countered with two runs in the bottom of the third as shortstop Jillian Regan (Staten Island, N.Y.) hit a two-run single to centerfield.
DC added a run in the fourth as Fitzgerald recorded teh RBI single to centerfield and tied the game in the fifth as second basemen Taylor Daniels (Watervliet, N.Y.) hit a run-scoring single.
The game went into extra innings where the international tie-breaking rule comes into play and each team would begin their half of the inning with a runner on second base. SNHU bunted the runner over to second and used a single to bring her home for the 5-4 lead.
In their half of the eighth, the Lady Chargers was able to get the runner to third base with two hits, but was unable to bring her home.
Jennifer Paride (Stonington, Conn.) suffered the loss (1-1) in three and 2/3 innings of relief.
Dominican is scheduled to take on Edinboro in a non-conference double-header tomorrow.
