LADY CHARGERS SPLIT WITH QUEENS COLLEGE
Flushing, N.Y. (3/25/17) The Dominican College softball team split a non-conference double-header with host Queens College in games played today at the QC Softball Field. Queens rallied to win game one, 8-7 in eight innings, while the Lady Chargers took the night cap, 4-1 in nine innings.

Flushing, N.Y. (3/25/17) The Dominican College softball team split a non-conference double-header with host Queens College in games played today at the QC Softball Field. Queens rallied to win game one, 8-7 in eight innings, while the Lady Chargers took the night cap, 4-1 in nine innings.
Game One: The Lady Chargers exploded for five runs in the first inning on three hits. The bases were loaded for sophomore third basemen Taylor Gilligan (Medford, N.J.) and she drew the walk to bring home a run. Designated player Alexandria Ledgerwood (Salem, Ore.) hit a sacrifice fly ball to right field to plate a run and two batters later left fielder Elontay Collins (San Diego, Calif.) delivered a three-run homer to give them the 5-0 lead.
QC got a run back in the bottom frame, but DC regained the five-run lead in the fourth as Collins blasted her second home run of the day. Dominican added a run in the sixth on an error for the 7-1 edge.
The Knights forced extra innings as they scored six runs in the bottom of the seventh. In the eighth, they were able to get the bases loaded and with one out a single brought home the game-winning run.
Collins went 2-2 in the game with two runs scored and four RBIs in the game.
Reliever Jennifer Paride (Stonington, Conn.) took the loss in 2/3 innings of work, allowing three runs on three hits.
Game Two: QC took a 1-0 advantage in the first frame, but the Lady Chargers tied it in the third as Collins singled through the left side to score a run.
From there the score remained 1-1 until the top of the ninth when shortstop Jillian Regan (Staten Island, N.Y.) produced a single up the middle to score Gilligan and later with two outs senior Shannon Truppi (Little Ferry, N.J.) delievered a two-run single to give Dominican te 4-1 lead.
The Knights got two runners on base in the bottom of the ninth, but were unable to scorea any runs.
Ledgerwood and catcher Emily Luzetsky (Bel Air, Md.) both had three hits in the win. Regan finished with two hits in the win.
Desiree Joines (Stewartstown, Pa.) got the complete game win, allowing one run on six hits.
