LADY CHARGERS SPLIT WITH SOUTHERN CONNECTICUT
New Haven, Conn. (4/7/17) The Dominican College softball team split a non-conference double-header with host, Southern Connecticut State University, in games played this afternoon at Pelz Field. The Owls one the first game, 3-2, while Dominican shut out the host, 8-0, in the night cap.

New Haven, Conn. (4/7/17) The Dominican College softball team split a non-conference double-header with host, Southern Connecticut State University, in games played this afternoon at Pelz Field. The Owls one the first game, 3-2, while Dominican shut out the host, 8-0, in the night cap.
With the split, Dominican is now 12-11 on the season.
Game One: Right fielder Samantha Fitzgerald (Wallkill, N.Y.) led off the contest with a solo home run to give the Lady Chargers the 1-0 lead.
The Owls rallied with a run in the third, fourth and fifth innings to go ahead, 3-1. An error in the top of the seventh allowed the second Dominican run to score for the 3-2 final.
Fitzgerald went 2-4 in the game with an RBI and a run scored.
Desiree Joines (Stewartstown, Pa.) suffered the loss (4-5) in four 1/3 innings of work.
Game Two: The game was scoreless until the top of the fourth when Dominican struck for two runs as Alexandria Ledgerwood (Salem, Ore.) had an RBI single and a run later scored on an error.
DC added two more runs in the fifth on another Owl error and a bunt single off the bat of Taylor Gilligan (Medford, N.J.) to give them a 4-0 lead.
An RBI single from catcher Emily Luzetsky (Bel Air, Md.) in the sixth increased the lead to 5-0 and three runs in the seventh on a sacrifice bunt and a single gave the Lady Chargers the 8-0 victory.
Jennifer Paride (Stonington, Conn.) got the complete game shut out victory (3-3) after scattering just three hits and striking out six.
Dominican will have their home opener tomorrow afternoon as they host Holy Family University.
