SOFTBALL SPLIT WITH HOLY FAMILY UNIVERSITY
Orangeburg, N.Y. (4/8/17) The Dominican College softball squad split a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) double-header with the visiting Tigers of Holy Family University in games played this afternoon at The South Orangetown Little League Field. DC rallied to win the first game, 9-8, but fell in game two by the score of 7-4.

Orangeburg, N.Y. (4/8/17) The Dominican College softball squad split a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) double-header with the visiting Tigers of Holy Family University in games played this afternoon at The South Orangetown Little League Field. DC rallied to win the first game, 9-8, but fell in game two by the score of 7-4.
Game One: The Lady Chargers trailed 5-1 in the bottom of the fifth when freshman right fielder Samantha Fitzgerald (Fishkill, N.Y.) blasted a grand slam over the left field fence to tie the game at 5-5.
The Tigers brought home runs in the fifth and sixth frames to re-claim an 8-5 advantage, but the Lady Chargers once again rallied in the seventh inning. In the seventh, three consecutive hits would give DC the win. Shortstop Jillian Regan (Staten Island, N.Y.) got the rally going with a two-run double to left field, followed by an RBI ground out from senior Shannon Truppi (Little Ferry, N.J.) to tie the score at 8-8.
Freshman center fielder Alexandra Pannuto (New Paltz, N.Y.) got the game-winning hit as a single to left field would bring home Regan and give the Lady Chargers the 9-8 win.
Designated player Elontay Collins (San Diego, Calif.) had three hits in the win, while Regan had two hits, two RBIs and two runs scored. Fitzgerald had a career high four runs batted in.
Reliever Desiree Joines (Stewartstown, Pa.) picked up the win in two innings of relief to improve to 5-5 on the season.
Game Two: Holy Family jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the top of the second, but the Chargers got on the board in the bottom stanza with two runs on the RBI double to right center field off the bat of Alexandria Ledgerwood (Salem, Ore.) and the infield single from Mary Curatolo (Staten Island, N.Y.).
The Tigers added two more runs in the fifth and the Lady Chargers countered with a run in the bottom frame on the sacrifice fly ball hit by Taylor Gilligan (Medford, N.J.) to make the score 7-3.
Dominican added a run in the seventh on the infield single from Regan for the final 7-4 score.
Collins finished with two hits in the loss.
Jenna Maska (Warren, Mass.) took the loss (2-3) in one and 2/3 innings of work, allowing five runs (two earned) on four hits.
With the split, Dominican is now 13-12 overall and 5-3 in conference play.
