LONG BALL LEADS LADY CHARGERS TO SPLIT WITH CHESTNUT HILL COLLEGE
Orangeburg, N.Y. (4/9/17) The Dominican College softball team split a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) double-header with the visiting Griffins of Chestnut Hill College in games played this afternoon at the South Orangetown Little League Field. The Griffins shut out the Lady Chargers, 3-0 in the opener, while the DC offense exploded for eight runs in the night cap in the 8-0 five inning win.

Orangeburg, N.Y. (4/9/17) The Dominican College softball team split a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) double-header with the visiting Griffins of Chestnut Hill College in games played this afternoon at the South Orangetown Little League Field. The Griffins shut out the Lady Chargers, 3-0 in the opener, while the DC offense exploded for eight runs in the night cap in the 8-0 five inning win.
With the split, the Lady Chargers are now 14-13 overall and 6-4 in CACC play.
Game One: Griffin pitching limited Dominican to just two hits in the first game, while producing three runs on nine hits for the shut out win.
Desiree Joines (Stewartstown, Pa.) suffered the loss (5-6) in five and 2/3 innings of work.
Game Two: In their first at-bat of the night cap, the Lady Chargers hit back-to-back-to-back home runs to left field to jump ahead, 4-0. Third basemen Taylor Gilligan (Medford, N.J.) got the run going with a two-run blast and first basemen Alexandria Ledgerwood (Salem, Ore.) followed with a solo shot. After a CHC pitching change, shortstop Jillian Regan (Staten Island, N.Y.) contributed a solo homer.
Dominican added two more runs in the second as catcher Emily Luzetsky (Bel Air, Md.) laid down a squeeze bunt that allowed a run to score and Ledgerwood later hit a sac fly to left field to increase the lead to 6-0.
In the fourth a run scored on Shannon Truppi's (Little Ferry, N.J.) fielder's choice and a throwing error on the play allowed another run to score and give the Lady Chargers the 8-0 advantage and eventual win.
Right fielder Samantha Fitzgerald (Fishkill, N.Y.) had two hits in the win, while Ledgerwood and Gilligan each recorded two runs batted in.
Jennifer Paride (Stonington, Conn.) got the shut out win, scattering just three hits and striking out nine batters.
