LADY CHARGERS SPLIT WITH GEORGIAN COURT UNIVERSITY

(4/18/17) The Dominican College softball team split a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) double-header with host, Georgian Court University, in games played this afternoon at GCU Field #1. The Lions won the opening game, 8-5, while the Lady Chargers took the night cap, 8-6.

(4/18/17) The Dominican College softball team split a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) double-header with host, Georgian Court University, in games played this afternoon at GCU Field #1. The Lions won the opening game, 8-5, while the Lady Chargers took the night cap, 8-6.
With the split, Dominican now stands at 19-16 overall and 11-5 in CACC play.
Game One: GCU scored runs in the first three innings to jump out to a 8-0 lead. Dominican cut the lead in half with a four-run top of the fourth inning. Right Fielder Samantha Fitzgerald (Fishkill, N.Y.) hit her second grand-slam of the season to make the score 8-4.
DC followed with a run in the fifth on the RBI ground out off the bat of Alexandria Ledgerwood (Salem, Ore.) for what would be the final 8-5 score.
Left fielder Elontay Collins (San Diego, Calif.) had three hits in the loss, while Emily Luzetsky (Bel Air, Md.) and Shannon Truppi (Little Ferry, N.J.) each had two hits.
Starter Desiree Joines (Stewartstown, Pa.) took the loss (5-9) in 1 1/3 innings of work, allowing five runs (four earned) on two hits and two strikeouts. Emily Larsen (Midlothian, Ill.) pitched the remaining 4 2/3 innings, allowing three runs (two earned) on four hits and three strikeouts.
Game Two: An RBI ground out from Truppi in the top of the second inning gave DC the 1-0 advantage. The Lions rallied with three runs in the third, but Dominican tied the game in the fourth with back-to-back bases loaded walks issued to Fitzgerald and Luzetsky to make the score 3-3.
The Lady Chargers scored five more runs in the fifth stanza as Truppi got things started with an RBI single to right field. Center fielder Alexandra Pannuto (New Paltz, N.Y.) followed with a single to center and a GCU fielding error allowed her to advance to second and a run to score. Two batters latter, Luzetsky hit a bunt single and two runs ended up scoring to put DC back ahead, 8-3.
GCU scored three runs in the bottom of the fifth for the final 8-6 score.
First basemen Alyssa Siess (Queens, N.Y.) had three hits in the win
Truppi finished with two hits and two runs, while Pannuto and Luzetsky each had two hits.
Jenna Maska (Warren, Mass.) picked up the win (5-3) in four innings of work, allowing six runs (five earned) on seven hits and three strikeouts.
Jennifer Paride (Stonington, Conn.) recorded her second save of the season, pitching the last three innings and strikeout four batters.
