SOFTBALL SWEEPS POST UNIVERSITY

(4/20/17) The Dominican College softball team improved to 21-16 overall and 13-5 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) play after sweeping the visiting Eagles of Post University, 3-1 and 9-1 in six innings in games played today at the South Orangetown Little League Field.

Game One: Dominican took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first as left fielder Elontay Collins (San Diego, Calif.) delivered a one out RBI single through the right side to bring home Samantha Fitzgerald (Fishkill, N.Y.) who had led off the inning with a double down the right field line.
The Lady Chargers added a run in the fourth frame as designated player Taylor Daniels (Watervliet, N.Y.) recorded the two out RBI single to left field to bring home Collins and increase the lead to 2-0.
Post got a run back in the fifth as the designated player, Erica Ragazzone (Philadelphia, Pa.) led off the inning with a solo blast to left center to cut the lead to 2-1.
DC regained a two-run lead in the sixth as Daniels produced a two out run-scoring single through the right side for the 3-1 lead and win.
Daniels went 2-3 in the game with two RBIs.
Collins also finished with two hits, one RBI and one run scored.
Jennifer Paride (Stonington, Conn.) improved to 7-4 overall with the complete game win, allowing one run on three hits and three strikeouts.
Game Two: The game was scoreless until the bottom of the third inning when back-to-back two out run-scoring doubles to left center field off the bats of Emily Luzetsky (Bel Air, Md.) and Collins gave DC the 2-0 lead. Third basemen Taylor Gilligan (Medford, N.J.) then followed with a single down the left field line to bring home Collins and increase the lead to 3-0.
The Lady Chargers added to the lead in the fifth stanza as Gilligan and Daniels recorded back-to-back run-scoring singles to the left side of the field for the 5-0 lead.
The Eagles scored a run in their half of the sixth on a sacrifice fly ball.
Dominican closed out the game with four runs in the sixth on four consecutive hits by Collins, Gilligan, Daniels and Alyssa Siess (Queens, N.Y.) for the 9-1 win.
Gilligan finished with three hits and three runs batted in.
Five other Lady Chargers had two hits a-piece.
Junior Jenna Maska (Warren, Mass.) recorded the complete-game victory (6-3), allowing one run on six hits.
