Caldwell, N.J. (4/26/17) The #16 Caldwell University Cougars swept a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) double-header from the visiting Lady Chargers of Dominican College, 2-1 and 8-2, in games played this afternoon at Caldwell Field.

Caldwell, N.J. (4/26/17) The #16 Caldwell University Cougars swept a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) double-header from the visiting Lady Chargers of Dominican College, 2-1 and 8-2, in games played this afternoon at Caldwell Field.
Game One: The Cougars scored a run in the first and added one in the third for the 2-0 lead. Dominican got on the scoreboard in the sixth as second basemen Shannon Truppi (Little Ferry, N.J.) led off the inning with a solo home run with a blast over the left center field fence.
In the top of the seventh inning, the Lady Chargers had the tying run on third base but was unable to bring her home.
Desiree Joines (Stewartstown, Pa.) took the loss (5-10) in six innings, allowing two runs (one earned) on nine hits and two strikeouts.
Game Two: DC took the early 1-0 lead on a run-scoring double off the bat of right fielder Samantha Fitzgerald (Fishkill, N.Y.). The Cougars countered with two runs in the bottom frame and added a run in the fourth to go ahead, 3-1.
Dominican added a run in the fifth as catcher Emily Luzetsky (Bel Air, Md.) reached base on an error that let a run come home and cut the deficit to 3-2.
The Cougars scored five runs in the bottom of the fifth to claim an 8-2 lead and eventual win.
Starter Jenna Maska (Warren, Mass.) suffered the loss in four innings of work, allowing five runs on 11 hits. Emily Larsen (Midlothian, Ill.) went one inning and allowed three runs on three hits and two strikeouts.
Following the losses, the Lady Chargers are now 23-18 and 15-7 in conference play.
