SOFTBALL DEFEATS UNIVERSITY OF THE SCIENCES

(4/29/17) The Dominican College softball team swept the visiting Devils from the University of the Sciences, 4-3 in 8 innings and 2-1, this afternoon in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) action played at the DC Softball Field. Today was also Senior Day for the Lady Chargers.

(4/29/17) The Dominican College softball team swept the visiting Devils from the University of the Sciences, 4-3 in 8 innings and 2-1, this afternoon in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) action played at the DC Softball Field. Today was also Senior Day for the Lady Chargers.
Today the team honores seniors: #5 Ariana Trembone (Staten Island, N.Y.), #9 Mary Curatolo (Staten Island, N.Y.), #12 Emily Larsen (Midlothian, Ill.), #14 Shannon Truppi (Little Ferry, N.J.), #17 Victoria Brooks (Bear, Del.) and #33 Elontay Collins (San Diego, Calif.).
Game One: Dominican scored a run in the bottom of the first on the infield single by outfielder Samantha Fitzgerald (Fishkill, N.Y.) and added two runs in the second on the RBI double by catcher Emily Luzetsky (Bel Air, Md.) and the fielder's choice from Taylor Daniels (Watervliet, N.Y.) to give the team the 3-0 advantage.
The Devils countered with two runs in the fifth and added one in the sixth to tie the game at 3-3 and eventually force extra innings.
In the bottom of the eighth, pinch hitter Alyssa Siess (Queens, N.Y.) hit an RBI single to bring home Jillian Regan (Staten Island, N.Y.) and give DC the 4-3 win.
Luzetsky finished the game with two hits.
Reliever Larsen improved to 5-0 on the season, going three inning and allowing one hit and two strikeouts.
Game Two: The Lady Chargers took a 1-0 lead in the first as left fielder Collins hit a lead off home run down the right field line.
DC added to the lead in the third as Fitzgerald hit a sacrifice fly ball to center field to bring home Brooks and increase the lead to 2-0.
The Devils got a run back in the fifth fro the final 2-1 score.
Trembone had two hits in the win.
Jenna Maska (Warren, Mass.) got the complete game win (7-4), allowing one run on four hits and one strikeout.
With the sweep, Dominican improves to 25-18 overall and 17-7 in conference play.
