SOFTBALL GOES UNDEFEATED ON DAY ONE OF CACC SOFTBALL CHAMPIONSHIPS

(5/4/17) The Dominican College softball went undefeated today on day one of the 2017 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Softball Championships being hosted by Georgian Court University. #3 Dominican defeated #8 Felician University, 3-2, in their first game and took game two, 8-4 over #2 Holy Family University.

Game One: The Golden Falcons took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first on the RBI double, but the Lady Chargers countered in the bottom frame as senior left fielder Elontay Collins (San Diego, Calif.) produced the lead off home run over the center field fence to knot the game, 1-1.
The score would remain tied until the third when Felician scored a run on a Lady Charger throwing error to re-claim a 2-1 advantage.
In the bottom of the shortstop Jillian Regan (Staten Island, N.Y.) reached base on a fielder's choice that allowed Collins to score to re-tie the game 2-2.
The bottom of the seventh saw designated player Alexandria Ledgerwood (Salem, Ore.) lead off the inning with a walk and senior Shannon Truppi (Little Ferry, N.J.) was hit by-a-pitch to put runners on first and second. A sacrifice bunt from outfielder Alexandra Pannuto (New Paltz, N.Y.) put the winning run 60 feet away and Collins drew a walk to load the bases.
Catcher Emily Luzetsky then hit a gorund ball to the shortstop and a throwing error on the attempt to get the runner at the plate allowed pinch runner Mary Curatolo (Staten Island, N.Y.) to score the game-winner and give the Lady Chargers the 3-2 win.
Collins and right fielder Samantha Fitzgerald (Fishkill, N.Y.) each had two hits in the win.
Jennifer Paride (Stonington, Conn.) improved to 9-5 overall in the win, recording six strikouts and four hits in 4 2/3 innings of relief.
Game Two: Dominican took a 2-0 lead in the first as Luzetsky hit a run-scoring double and Regan later followed with an RBI squeeze bunt.
The Tigers scored two runs in the bottom frame to retie the score and the game remained tied until the Lady Chargers scored four runs in the top of the fifth inning. Second basemen Taylor Daniels (Watervliet, N.Y.) hit a two out two-run double to center field and two batters later Regan hit an RBI single up-the-middle. Ariana Trembone (Staten Island, N.Y.) followed by reaching base on a fielding error which brought home the fourth DC run of the frame and give them the 6-2 advantage.
Holy Family scored a run in the sixth to cut the lead to 6-3, but the Lady Charger offense scored two runs, one on the home run off the bat of Daniels and the other on a Tiger error to rebuild an 8-3 lead.
The Tigers scored a run in their final at-bat for the 8-4 score.
Daniels went 4-4 in the game with three RBIs.
Regan finished with two hits and two RBIs.
Collins and Luzetsky also both had two hits in the win.
Paride improved to 10-5 on the season in the win, allowing four runs (three earned) on 11 hits and two strikeouts.
With the wins, Dominican improves to 29-20 overall on the season.
The Lady Chargers advance to take on the top-seeded Cougars of Caldwell University, scheduled for tomorrow morning at 11am on the campus of Georgian Court University.
