JOINES NAMED TO CACC SOFTBALL ALL-ACADEMIC TEAM
New Haven, Conn. (5/31/17) Fifty-three (53) student-athletes on Wednesday were named to the 2017 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Softball All-Academic Team, as announced by Commissioner Dan Mara. All 14 member schools that sponsor the sport at the varsity level had at least one student-athlete make the academic squad.

(5/31/17) Fifty-three (53) student-athletes on Wednesday were named to the 2017 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Softball All-Academic Team, as announced by Commissioner Dan Mara. All 14 member schools that sponsor the sport at the varsity level had at least one student-athlete make the academic squad.
Dominican College's Desiree Joines (Stewartstown, Pa.) makes her first appreance on this team.
To be eligible for the All-Academic Team, a student-athletes must meet the following criteria: a) minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5 at the end of the immediate preceding term; b) minimum of two semesters enrolled as full-time student at member institution; c) student-athlete must be second year student-athlete at member institution; and d) student-athlete must have been athletically eligible the season preceding the award and used a season of eligibility.
Post University led all schools with eight honorees on the list, including Marissa Cammarano, who topped the Eagles with a cumulative grade point average of 3.98 in her major of sport management. Cammarano made the CACC All-Academic Team for the third time in her career, as the senior was also a three-time winner of the CACC Top XV Award at the softball championship for having the highest GPA of all student-athletes at the finals site. Six of the eight Eagles to make the 2017 academic team, made it for the third time in their respective careers, including Cammarano, Kate Dawson (Sr., 3.79, sport management), Alivia Hubert (Sr., 3.67, criminal justice), Natalie Lennox (Sr., 3.77, psychology), Kristen Owens (Sr., 3.80, communications) and Erica Ragazzone (Sr., 3.80, marketing).
Three other schools were next on the CACC All-Academic Team with six honorees apiece, including Goldey-Beacom College, Holy Family University and Philadelphia University. All six Lightning players appearing on the All-Academic Team were multiple-time honorees, including junior Lauren Conway, as the junior led her team with a 3.93 GPA in her major of accounting. Five of HFU's six honorees appeared on the academic squad for at least the second time in their respective careers. Junior Victoria Hernandez led the Tigers with a mark of 3.96 in her major of criminal justice. Four of PhilaU's six honorees were named to the CACC All-Academic Team for the third time in their respective careers, including senior Gianna Bliss, who sported a team-best 3.99 GPA in her major of mechanical engineering.
Twenty-three (23) honorees made the CACC Softball All-Academic Team for the third time in their career, while 11 more made it for the second time. That total of 34 multiple-time honorees represents 64 percent of the total honorees on the team.
Chestnut Hill's Jessica Heaton was the lone student-athlete on the All-Academic Team to post a perfect 4.0 GPA, as the sophomore is currently majoring in accounting. Ten student-athletes, overall, had GPAs of 3.90 or higher on the unit.
