SOFTBALL EARNS FIRST WIN IN SPLIT WITH CARDINALS
Kissimmee, Fla. (2/25/18) The Dominican College softball continued the ESPN Wide World of Sports/Citrus classic in Kissimmee, Florida on Sunday with a double header against Wheeling Jesuit University.

(2/25/18) The Dominican College softball continued the ESPN Wide World of Sports/Citrus classic in Kissimmee, Florida on Sunday with a double header against Wheeling Jesuit University. The Lady Chargers are coming off of losses in the first two days of the weekend and were looking to get into the win column for the first time in the early part of the 2018 season.
Game One: The Cardinals jumped in front early on the Lady Chargers with two quick runs in the first and second innings. First baseman for the Cardinals, Courtney Rogers, drove in the game's first run with a sacrifice fly to begin the scoring. The Cardinals scratched another run in the second inning on a wild pitch to extend their lead to 2-0.
Outfielder Molly Welsh drove in her only RBI of the game for the Cardinals in the fifth inning to make the score 3-0 in favor of the Cardinals. The Cardinals extended to a 7-0 lead on Courtney Rogers' three-run homer which gave her a team leading four RBI's on the game.
The Lady Chargers answered with their only run of the game in the bottom half of the seventh inning when Taylor Gilligan (Medford, N.J.) singled to put the Lady Chargers on the board. That would serve as the only run scored for Dominican who fell to the Cardinals in game one by a score of 7-1. Gilligan drove in the only run for Dominican and also had a multi-hit game going two for three in the loss as the Lady Chargers fell to 0-5.
Game Two: Coming off of the loss in game one, the Lady Chargers were still in search of their first win of the young season. Both teams started off game two by scoring once each in the first inning. Taylor Daniels (Watervliet, N.Y.) drove in the first run of the game with a sacrifice fly after Rajene Bowe (Ellendale, Del.) doubled to start the game and Samantha Fitzgerald (Fishkill, N.Y.) beat out a bunt to third base for a single which set up the SAC fly by Daniels.
Courtney Rogers tied the game I the bottom of the first on an RBI Single for the Cardinals. The Lady Chargers added three runs in the top of the second inning to regain the lead by a score of 4-1.
Emily Luzetsky (Bel Air, Md.) drove in the first run of the second inning for the Lady Chargers and Fitzgerald followed with a double to give Dominican a 4-1 lead. The Cardinals added a run in the fourth inning to cut the deficit to 4-2.
In the top of the fifth, Fitzgerald recorded her third RBI of the game to give the Lady Chargers a 5-2 lead. The Cardinals got another run back in the bottom of the fifth inning when Molly Welsh's RBI single drove in the Cardinal's third run of the game. The Lady Chargers added an insurance run in the top of the seventh inning and pitcher Jennifer Paride (Stonington, Conn.) shut the Cardinals down in the bottom of the seventh.
Dominican earned their first win of the 2018 season and split the double header with the Cardinals. Paride pitched a complete game and earned eight strikeouts in the win. Bowe went two for three and scored three runs while Fitzgerald drove in three RBI's going two for three.
Dominican, now 1-5, will be back in action with a double header on Monday February 26th against American International College at 11:00 AM and 1:30 PM.
