LADY CHARGERS SPLIT WITH DEVILS
Philadelphia, Pa. (3/17/18) The Dominican College softball team opened up Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) play with a split over host, University of the Sciences in games played today at the McNeil Family Field. Dominican won the opening game, 5-3, while the Devils picked up the 7-6 win in nine innings in the nightcap.

Dominican won the opening game, 5-3, while the Devils picked up the 7-6 win in nine innings in the nightcap.
With the split, Dominican is now 4-8 overall and 1-1 in CACC play.
Game One: The Lady Chargers got on the scoreboard in the first inning as Samantha Fitzgerald (Fishkill, N.Y.) scored on a Devil throwing error for the early 1-0 lead.
DC added two more runs in the fourth as Alexandria Ledgerwood (Salem, Ore.) brought in a run on a single down the third base line and pinch runner Gabrielle Kurtz (Cornwall, N.Y.) later came home on an error for the 3-0 lead.
The Devils scored one run in the fourth and added two more in the fifth to tie the game, 3-3 after five innings, but Dominican scored two runs on a double to left center field off the bat of senior Taylor Daniels (Watervliet, N.Y.) to lift them to thh 5-3 lead and eventual win.
Reliever Jennifer Paride (Stonington, Conn.) picked up the win (3-3) in 2 2/3 innings of work. Starter Jenna Maska (Warren, Mass.) pitched 4 1/3 innings allowing three runs (none earned) on five hits and four strikeouts.
Shortstop Jillian Regan (Staten Island, N.Y.) had two hits in the game, while Daniels finished with two RBIs.
Game Two: Dominican took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning as Daniels hit a run-scoring single to right field and Regan followed with a RBI double to left center field. USCI rallied with two runs in the second to make the score 2-2.
The Lady Chargers regained a two-run lead in the third as the combo hitting of Daniels and Regan produced consecutive RBI doubles, one down the right field line and the other to the opposite field to rebuild a 4-2 advantage. The Devils answered back in the bottom of the fourth when they scored three runs on four hits to take their first lead of the game, 5-4.
DC re-tied the game in the fifth as centerfielder Rajene Bowe (Ellendale, Del.) scored on a Devil fielding error. The score remained tied at 5-5 until the ninth inning when Dominican's Shalei Kraft (Waverly, N.Y.) hit a single to right field, which allowed Alexandra Pannuto (New Paltz, N.Y.) to score after being placed on second base to start the inning as part of the international tie-breaker rule, to give Dominican the 6-5 edge.
In the bottom of the ninth, a fielder's choice brought in the game-tying run and a Lady Charger fielding error allowed the game-winning run to score to lift the Devils to the 7-6 win.
Bowe, Daniels and Regan all hit two hits in the loss, while Daniels and Regan had two RBIs each.
Reliever Maska suffered the loss (0-1) in 4 2/3 innings, allowing two runs (none earned) on three hits and four strikeouts.
