Orangeburg, N.Y. (3/27/18) The Dominican College softball team split a double header on Tuesday against Bloomfield College in a conference match up. The Lady Chargers, 5-9 (2-2 CACC), took the first game by a score of 8-0 and the Bears now 2-8 (2-2 CACC) bounced back to take game two.
Game One: The Lady Chargers started the scoring in the second inning when Jillian Regan (Staten Island, N.Y.) homered to give Dominican an early 1-0 lead. The Lady Chargers scratched two more runs in the third inning to extend out to a 3-0 lead.
Dominican opened the game up with five runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to secure an 8-0 victory over the Bears. Regan finished with an RBI by going 1 for 2 in the win. Samantha Fitzgerald (Fishkill, N.Y.) finished game one with three RBI's and a double. Alyssa Schwed (Kinnelon, N.J.) added two RBI's on two hits. Taylor Daniels (Watervliet, N.Y.) and Rajene Bowe (Ellendale, Del.) both added an RBI each. Jenna Maska (Warren, Mass.) allowed two hits in five scoreless innings pitched to earn the win and improve to 1-1 on the season.
Game Two: The Bears started the game by jumping out to a 3-0 lead over the Lady Chargers by the third inning. Dominican score their first run of the game in the bottom of the third. The Bears scored four more runs in the top of the fourth inning to extend out to a 7-1 lead over the Lady Chargers. The Lady Chargers answered with five runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to cut the deficit to 7-6.
Both teams scored the fifth inning but the Bears added two more runs in the sixth inning to extend out to a 10-7 lead and eventually secured the win over Dominican. The Bears recorded 12 hits while the Lady Chargers recorded 10 hits. Fitzgerald finished with four RBI's for Dominican while Bowe, Schwed, and Shaiilei Kraft (Waverly, N.Y.) all added one RBI. Bowe recorded two hits and scored two runs while Taylor Giligan (Medford, N.J.) went 3 for 4 and scored two runs.
The Lady Chargers will travel to Chestnut Hill College on Wednesday March 28th for a CACC double header at 2:30 PM and 4:30 PM.
