LADY CHARGERS SWEEP NYACK COLLEGE

(4/5/18) The Dominican College softball team swept a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) double-header from the visiting Warriors of Nyack College in games played this afternoon at the Orangetown Little League Field. Dominican won the first game, 12-4 in five innings and took the nightcap, 9-0 in five innings.

(4/5/18) The Dominican College softball team swept a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) double-header from the visiting Warriors of Nyack College in games played this afternoon at the Orangetown Little League Field. Dominican won the first game, 12-4 in five innings and took the nightcap, 9-0 in five innings.
With the sweep, Dominican improves 9-9 overall and 6-2 in conference play.
Game One: The Lady Chargers scored 12 runs on 12 hits (two home runs) in the 12-4 victory.
Rightfielder Samantha Fitzgerald (Fishkill, N.Y.) tallied four RBIs, while Taylor Daniels (Watervliet, N.Y.) recorded three RBIs.
The Warriors got on the board with a three-run homer run in the first, but Dominican got two runs back in the bottom frame as Daniels hit an RBI double to right centerfield and junior Taylor Gilligan (Medford, N.J.) followed with a run-scoring single up-the-middle to make the score 3-2.
DC took the lead in the second inning as Fitzgerald blasted a three-run home run over the right centerfield fence to lift them to a 5-2 lead. Dominican added to the lead in the third as Gilligan hit a solo home run to centerfield to extend the lead to 6-2.
The Lady Charger offense tacked on six more runs in the fourth as Fitzgerald got the scoring going with an RBI single to centerfield. The Warriors got one back in the top of the fifth for the final 12-4 score.
Fitzgerald went 3-3 with three runs scored and four RBIs.
Jennifer Paride (Stonington, Conn.) recorded the win (5-4), allowing four runs on six hits and three strikeouts.
Game Two: Dominican scored nine runs on 14 hits in the nightcap en route to the 9-0 shut out win. DC jumped out to a 5-0 advantage in the first stanza as Fitzgerald singled to left, Daniels hit a sacrifice fly ball, Gilligan singled through the right side and designated player Alexandria Ledgerwood (Salem, Ore.) hit a two-run home run over the left field fence.
The Lady Chargers added four more runs in the second as back-to-back home runs off the bats of shorstop Jillian Regan (Staten Island, N.Y.) and Daniels brought in three runs. Later pinch hitter Gabrielle Kurtz (Cornwall, N.Y.) singled home a run to extend the lead to 9-0.
Regan, Ledgerwood and Daniels all had two RBIs in the victory, while Regan finished with three hits.
Jenna Maska (Warren, Mass.) picked up the shut out win (3-1), scattering three hits and striking out two batters.
Dominican returns to action tomorrow as they travel to CACC foe, Goldey-Beacom College.
