DOMINICAN SPLITS DH WITH PACE

Pleasantville, N.Y. (4/20/18) The Dominican College softball team split a non-conference doubleheader against the Setters of Pace University. The Lady Chargers took game one by a score of 7-6 and dropped game two by a score of 9-8. Dominican's record on the season is now 16-14 (12-6 CACC).
Game One: The Setters jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the second inning. Dominican got on the board in the top of the third inning when Rajene Bowe (Ellendale, Del.) hit an RBI single to cut the deficit to 3-1. The Setters jumped out to a 6-1 lead with two homers in the inning. The first homer was a solo shot by Aby Brambila followed by a two-run shot by Emma Schafer.
In the fifth inning, Dominican cut the deficit to one run when they rallied for four runs backed by RBI singles from Samantha Fitzgerald (Fishkill, N.Y.) and Jillian Regan (Staten Island, N.Y.). Alyssa Siess (Queens, N.Y.) tied the game in the sixth inning with an RBI double and then gave Dominican the lead in the seventh inning with an RBI single.
Sara Gedeon (Hudson, Ohio) came in relief for the Lady Chargers and pitched 3.2 innings, recorded four strikeouts and no runs to help Dominican secure the 7-6 win in game one.
Game Two: The Setters took an early lead for the second straight game when they posted two runs in the first inning. RBI singles by Niyah Brown and Jillian Gartner helped give the Setters the early lead. The Lady Chargers answered and took the lead in the top of the second inning with RBI's from Alyssa Seiss and Alexandra Pannuto (New Paltz, N.Y.).
Fitzgerald hit a solo homerun in the top of the third inning to extend the Dominican lead to 4-2. Niyah Brown singled in her second RBI of the game in the bottom of the third inning to cut the deficit to 4-3. Fitzgerald recorded an RBI walk to give Dominican a 5-3 lead.
The Setters took the lead in the bottom of the fourth inning with a four-run rally. Emma Schafer and Ashley Lew both hit RBI singles and Larissa Labs recorded a two RBI single. In the seventh inning, the Lady Chargers rallied to regain the lead by a score of 8-7 with three runs. Shailei Kraft (Waverly, N.Y.) hit an RBI single and Pannuto hit a two RBI double to help Dominican regain the lead.
The Setters came back for the second time to tie the game in the bottom of the seventh inning. Jillian Gartner tied the game at 8-8 with an RBI triple and Aby Brambila ended the game with an RBI single to secure the 9-8 win.
The Lady Chargers will be back in action on Saturday April 21st when they visit Holy Family University. Game one is scheduled for 12:00 PM and game two is scheduled for 2:00 PM.
