Rutherford, N.J. (4/26/18) The Lady Chargers softball team swept a conference doubleheader over Felician University on Thursday. Dominican took game one by a score of 7-4 and game two by a score of 12-4. With both wins, the Lady Chargers improve their record to 21-15 (15-7 CACC) on the season. The Golden Falcons dropped to 18-21 (15-9 CACC) on the season.
Game One: Dominican opened the scoring in the second inning with five runs to jump out to an early 5-0 lead. Emily Luzetsky (Bel Air, Md.), Rajene Bowe (Ellendale, Del.), Samantha Fitzgerald (Fishkill, N.Y.), and Taylor Daniels (Watervliet, N.Y.) all recorded RBI's in the inning.
Felician cut the deficit to 5-2 in the bottom of the third inning when C.J. Apacible doubled in two runs. Dominican extended their lead in the fifth inning when Luzetsky singled in two runs to make the score 7-2.
The score remained until the seventh inning when Nicole Spiegelberg cut the deficit to 7-4 when she doubled to bring in two runs, but Dominican eventually secured the 7-4 win in game one. Sara Gedeon (Hudson, Ohio) earned the win to improve to 3-1 on the season. Gedeon struck out seven batters and pitched a complete seven innings.
Game Two: Dominican jumped out to an early lead for the second consecutive game. Fitzgerald drove in the first run of the game and Alyssa Schwed (Kinnelon, N.J.) followed with a two-run homer. The Lady Chargers extended out to a 10-0 lead with six runs in the second inning. Felician added two runs in the bottom of the second inning.
Dominican added two more runs in the fourth inning to make the score 12-2. Felician scored two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning but Dominican secured the 12-4 win in five innings. Jenna Maska (Warren, Mass.) earned the win in game two to improve her record to 5-4 on the season and struck out four batters over 4 and 2/3 innings. Jennifer Paride (Stonington, Conn.) entered the game in relief to help Dominican secure the win.
Fitzgerald finished game two with four hits and four RBI's. Jillian Regan (Staten Island, N.Y.), Luzetsky, and Schwed all finished with two RBI's. Bowe finished game two with three hits and on RBI.
The Lady Chargers will be back in action on Friday April 27th when they host Queens College. Game one is scheduled for 2:30 PM and game two is scheduled for 4:30 PM.
