Orangeburg, N.Y. (3/19/19) The Dominican College softball team opened conference play with a sweep over the Eagles of Post University.

Orangeburg, N.Y. (3/19/19) The Dominican College softball team opened conference play with a sweep over the Eagles of Post University. With both wins, the Lady Chargers improve to 5-8 (2-0 CACC) and earned their third straight win. The Eagles fall to 4-6 (0-2 CACC) on the season.
DC earned a comeback win in game one and followed it up with a strong performance in game two by shutting the Eagles out in six innings to complete the sweep.
Game One: Jennifer Paride (Stonington, Conn.) pitched a solid 5.2 innings for DC and struck out three. Madeline Uschock (Greensburg, Pa.) entered the game late and recorded the win in relief.
The Lady Chargers took an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning when Alyssa Seiss (Queens, N.Y.) ripped an RBI double.
Dominican's 1-0 lead held up until the top of the sixth inning when the Eagles took the lead on back-to-back RBI singles by Demi Rivera and Bailee Zaccaro.
DC was able to tie the game up when Emily Luzetsky (Bel Air, Md.) singled in the tying run which sent the game to extra innings.
The Eagles rallied in the eighth inning to regain the lead when Allyson Wallauer and Briana Wilky recorded RBI singles.
The Lady Chargers answered back in the bottom half of the eighth inning when they put two runners on base. Taylor Gilligan (Medford, N.J.) ended the game with one swing when she clobbered a three-run walk-off homer to propel the Lady Chargers to victory in game one.
Game Two: The Lady Chargers jumped out to an early 4-0 lead in the first inning and never looked back for the 8-0 victory in eight innings.
Madison Newman (Phelan, Calif.) went 3 for 3 with an RBI in the win in game two. Kristin Miscia (Basking Ridge, N.J.) went 1 for 3 with a homer, one RBI, and two runs scored. Andrea Hester (Yorba Linda, Calif.) scored a run and drove in an RBI on two hits. Gilligan had two more hits in game two as well as one RBI and scored two runs. Samantha Fitzgerald (Fishkill, N.Y.) scored two runs and roped a double while Emily Luzetsky and Shailei Kraft (Waverly, N.Y.) also had an RBI each.
Madeline Uschock pitched all six innings for the Lady Chargers and only surrendered two hits in a shutout victory.
The Lady Chargers will be back in action when they host St. Thomas Aquinas College for a non-conference doubleheader. Game one is scheduled for 2:30 PM and game two will follow at 4:00 PM.
