Orangeburg, N.Y. (3/27/19) The Dominican College softball team split a conference doubleheader with the Warriors of Nyack College. The Warriors edged the Lady Chargers in game one by a score of 2-1. The Lady Chargers bounced back in game two to beat the Warriors 5-4.
After the split, the Lady Chargers hold a record of 6-9 (3-1 CACC) and the Warriors are now 7-18 (4-4 CACC) on the season.
Game One: The Warriors opened the scoring in the third inning to take a 2-0 lead over the Lady Chargers. Erin O'Brien drove in the first run with an RBI double. Alissa Brugnoli drove in the second run of the inning to extend their lead to 2-0.
DC cut the deficit in half in the fifth inning when Shailei Kraft (Waverly, N.Y.) smacked a solo homer to put the Lady Chargers on the board.
The scoring would stop there as the Warriors closed out the 2-1 victory in game one.
Game Two: DC bounced back in game two to earn a split of the doubleheader. The Warriors scored one run in each of the first two innings. DC cut the deficit to 2-1 in the fourth inning when Shailei Kraft recorded an RBI single.
DC used a big fifth inning to take a 5-2 lead over the Warriors with RBI singles by Emily Luzetsky (Bel Air, Md.), Taylor Gilligan (Medford, N.J.), and Samantha Fitzgerald (Fishkill, N.Y.).
The Warriors got two runs back to cut the DC lead to 5-4 in the sixth inning. Jennifer Paride (Stonington, Conn.) entered the game in the seventh inning and earned the save by holding off the Warriors for the win. Shelby Smith (Valley Center, Calif.) earned the win with six strong innings and recorded five strikeouts.
DC will be back in action on Thursday, March 28th when they visit LIU Post for a non-conference doubleheader. Game one is scheduled for 2:30 and game two is scheduled for 4:30.
