DOMINICAN SPLITS TWINBILL WITH WILDCATS
New Castle, Del. (4/11/19) The Dominican College softball squad split a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) double-header with host, Wilmington University, in games played today at Asbury Field. Dominican rallied to win the opener, 9-7, while the 'Cats brought home a 10-1 victory in six innings in the nightcap.

(4/11/19) The Dominican College softball squad split a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) double-header with host, Wilmington University, in games played today at Asbury Field. Dominican rallied to win the opener, 9-7, while the 'Cats brought home a 10-1 victory in six innings in the nightcap.
Game One: The 'Cats led 5-0 after three innings of play, but the Lady Charger offense awoke in the fourth as junior firstbasemen Alyssa Siess (Queens, N.Y.) blasted a two-run home run over the right center field fence to get DC on the scoreboard and make the score 5-2.
In the fifth, Dominican scored six runs on six hits with two outs to jump infront, 8-6. Sophomore Rajene Bowe (Ellendale, Del.) got things started with a two-run in the park home run on a shot to left field and three batters laters Siess added two more RBI with a two-run single to left field. She came in to score as junior Samantha Fitzgerald (Fishkill, N.Y.) delivered a two-run homer over the left field fence to take the lead.
WU countered with two runs in the bottom of the fifth to cut the lead to 8-7, but Bowe gave the Lady Chargers a two-run cushion in the sixth with an RBI single to right field for the 9-7 lead and win.
Siess went 2-4 with two runs scored and four RBI, while Bowe also had two hits, one run scored and three RBI.
Starter Shelby Smith (Valley Center, Calif.) improved to 7-3 overall after pitching four and 2/3 innings, allowing seven runs on 11 hits and three strikeouts.
Madeline Uschock (Greensburg, Pa.) picked up her second save on the season after getting the final two outs of the contest.
Game Two: The 'Cats led 2-0 after one inning and held the lead until the third when Dominican got on the board as senior third basemen Taylor Gilligan (Medford, N.J.) led off the top of the third inning with a solo home run over the left center field fence to cut the lead to 2-1.
Wilmington scored runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings en route to the 10-1 six inning victory.
Uschock took the loss (8-9).
Following the split, Dominican is now 15-16 overall and 9-5 in the CACC.
The Lady Chargers are scheduled to host the Devils from the University of the Sciences this coming Saturday.
