Lakewood, N.J. (4/24/21) The Dominican College softball team split a conference doubleheader with Georgian Court University.
The Lions took game one by a score of 8-0 in five innings. DC bounced back in game two with a 1-0 win.
After the split, the Lady Chargers now stand at 17-11 (16-4 CACC). The Lions now hold a record of 22-4 (15-1 CACC).
Game One: The Lions opened the doubleheader with an 8-0 win in five innings over DC. Samantha Fohrman earned the shutout win and held DC to one hit. Fohrman improved her record to 15-1 on the season.
Malaya Black recorded three hits including a double and a triple. Black also scored two runs. Jayda Jones finished with two hits including a home run. Jones drove in a team-high four RBIs.
Malia Black, Taylor Barraza, Alyssa Herrera, and Adriana Mungo each added one RBI.
Andrea Hester (Yorba Linda, Calif.) recorded the only hit for the Lady Chargers.
The Lions scored five runs in the first two innings. Then added two runs in the fourth inning and one run in the fifth inning to complete the 8-0 win.
Game Two: DC bounced back in game two with a 1-0 win and handed the Lions their first conference loss of the season.
Journey Limardo (Anaheim, Calif.) recorded the complete-game shutout victory. Limardo improved her record to 9-2 on the season.
For the Lions, Caitlyn Hughes recorded two hits. Adriana Mungo, Alyssa Herrera, Alyssa Rue, and Kaitlyn Stufft each added one hit.
Rajene Bowe (Ellendale, Del.) recorded one hit and one stolen base for DC. Kristin Miscia (Basking Ridge, N.J.) hit a big home run in the sixth inning to break a scoreless tie which would eventually turn out to be the game-winning hit and RBI for DC.
The Lady Chargers will be back in action on Wednesday, April 28th when they travel to Caldwell University for a conference doubleheader. Game one will start at 2:30 PM and game two will follow at 4:30 PM.
