Philadelphia, Pa. (3/31/22) The Dominican College softball team was swept by CACC opponent University of the Sciences in a double header played at UYA Field in Philadelphia, Pa.
The Devils defeated the Lady Chargers 5-4 in game one and completed the sweep with a 6-4 win in game two.
DC now holds a record of 6-9 (2-2 CACC) and the Devils improve to 5-19 (3-3 CACC).
Game One: The Devils took the opener of the double header by a score of 5-4.
The Lady Chargers finished the game with 10 total hits. Kamryn Raya (Corona, Calif.), Haylee Redmond Ridge (Bellflower, Calif.), and Elizabeth Tolkan (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) each turned in multi-hit games. Redmond Ridge added a double in the loss.
Rebecca Haggerty (Grafton, Mass.) got the Lady Chargers on the board with an RBI-single in the first inning. Trailing by one run in the third inning, Redmond Ridge and Tolkan each hit RBI singles to regain the lead.
The Devils scored three unanswered runs over the next two innings to retake the lead. Gabrielle Simms drove in two RBIs to give Sciences the lead and Danielle Jones extended the lead.
DC cut the deficit to one run but the Devils held on to take game one.
Kristin Miscia (Basking Ridge, N.J.) added one hit, one RBI, one run scored, and a stolen base in the loss. Madison Walker (Southampton, N.J.) and Brooke Lockwood (Moorpark, Calif.) each added one hit.
Gabrielle Simms drove in three RBIs for the Devils in the win and added a double. Gabriella Jones and Nina Cincetti each drove in one RBI. Megan Master earned the win on the mound and recorded eight strikeouts.
Game Two: The Devils completed the sweep with a 6-4 win in game two.
Paige Schlechter recorded the win for Sciences to improve to 2-5 on the season. Nina Cincetti led the way with three hits and drove in two RBIs.
Taylor Hamm and Gabriella Polera each drove in two RBIs. Hamm hit two doubles while Polera and Danielle Jones each added one double.
For DC, Walker added a double. Miscia added one hit and scored one run. Tolkan finished with one hit.
Lockwood drove in two RBIs while Raya added one RBI.
The Lady Chargers will be back in action Saturday, April 2nd when they return home to host Georgian Court University for a conference double header. Game one is scheduled for 12:00 PM and game two will follow at 2:00 PM.
