SOFTBALL UPENDED IN NON-CONFERENCE DOUBLEHEADER
Clermont, Fla. (3/3/23) The Dominican University New York softball team fell to Minnesota State-Mankato, 10-4, and Winona State University, 7-3, this afternoon in a non-conference doubleheader held at The Spring Games.

Clermont, Fla. (3/3/23) The Dominican University New York softball team fell to Minnesota State University-Mankato, 10-4, and Winona State University, 7-3, this afternoon in a non-conference doubleheader held at The Spring Games.
Following the games Dominican now stands at 2-7 overall.
Game One: The Mavericks led 10-0 through five and a half innings, but the Lady Chargers scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth. Catcher Giovanna Salcido (Diamond Bar, Calif.) got things going with a solo home run and later with two outs Toni-Jo Lopez (Sylmar, Calif.) reached on a MSU fielding error which allowed two more runs to come home. Shortstop Chloe McIntosh (Menifee, Calif.) hit a run-scoring single for the last run of the game and the 10-4 final.
McIntosh and designated player Jaleaya LaPorte (Sylmar, Calif.) each had two hits in the loss.
Freshman pitcher Emily Baxter (Bucoda, Wash.) suffered the complete game loss, striking out seven batters.
Game Two: Dominican took a 2-0 lead in the first inning on Salcido's two-run blast over the left field fence. The Warriors scored a run in the first and second innings to claim a 2-1 advantage.
First basemen Madison Walker (Southampton, N.J.) tied the score at 2-all with the RBI single to left field in the top of the third inning, but Winona State scored two runs in the bottom of the third, two in their half of the fourth and one in the fifth stanza to lead them to the 7-3 win.
McIntosh led the Lady Chargers with two hits in the loss.
Junior Paige Sasser (Brentwood, Calif.) took the loss.
Dominican returns to The Spring Games tomorrow when they take on Saint Anselm and Notre Dame (OH).
