Staten Island, N.Y. (4/12/23) The Dominican University New York softball team earned a split with Alliance University in conference action.
The Lady Chargers took game one in five innings 11-0 but fell in game two by a score of 5-4.
Dominican now holds an overall record of 8-24 and a CACC record of 4-10. Alliance now stands at 4-30 overall and 2-14 in conference play.
Game One: The Lady Chargers opened the doubleheader with an 11-0 victory. Dominican pounded 13 total hits in the win.
Rebecca Haggerty (Grafton, Mass.) led the way by going 3-3 including two doubles, a triple, two RBIs, and two runs scored. Elizabeth Tolkan (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) added a double and a triple and drove in three RBIs.
Emma Kaszovitz (Hicksville, N.Y.) finished with two hits and drove in one RBI while Kristin Miscia (Basking Ridge, N.J.) and Haylee Redmond Ridge (Bellflower, Calif.) each drove in one RBI. Madison Walker (Southampton, N.J.) added a two-run homer.
Emily Baxter (Bucoda, WA) earned the win on the mound and recorded six strikeouts.
Game Two: Alliance bounced back in game two with a comeback victory to earn a split.
AU struck first with two runs in the bottom of the third inning after a Jayna Celano RBI-single and a Kayla Bird RBI-double.
Dominican tied the game in the top of the fourth inning when Adriana Barnes (North Brunswick, N.J.) cracked a two-RBI double. Dominican took the lead in the fifth inning after back to back bases loaded walks by Kamryn Raya (Corona, Calif.) and Nicole Mata (Sylmar, Calif.).
Trailing 4-2 in the bottom of the seventh inning, AU rallied for three runs to complete the comeback victory. Kaila Quick cut the Dominican lead to 4-3 with an RBI-single. Sarah Nunez delivered the game-winning two-RBI double to complete the comeback.
The Lady Chargers return to action this Saturday when they travel to Thomas Jefferson University for a CACC doubleheader beginning at 12:00 PM.
