LADY CHARGERS RALLY TO TAKE GAME TWO AGAINST OWLS
New Haven, Conn. (4/25/23) The Dominican University New York softball team split a non-conference doubleheader with host, Southern Connecticut State University in games played today at Pelz Field. The Owls won the opener, 4-3, in ten innings while the Lady Chargers rallied for a 5-4 victory in the nightcap.

New Haven, Conn. (4/25/23) The Dominican University New York softball team split a non-conference doubleheader with host, Southern Connecticut State University in games played today at Pelz Field. The Owls won the opener, 4-3, in ten innings while the Lady Chargers rallied for a 5-4 victory in the nightcap.
With the split Dominican now stands at 11-33 overall.
Game One: The Owls led 1-0 after two innings of play, but the Lady Chargers struck for a run in their half of the third inning when catcher Giovanna Salcido (Diamond Bar, Calif.) hit a single to right field which brought home Chloe McIntosh (Menifee, Calif.)
Dominican took a 2-1 advantage in the sixth on the RBI double to left field off the bat of right fielder Rebecca Haggerty (Grafton, Mass.). SCSU re-tied the game in the bottom of the sixth inning which would later force extra innings.
In the top of the eighth an RBI groundout by Kamryn Raya (Corona, Calif.) put the Lady Chargers ahead 3-2. The Owls countered in the bottom of the inning with an RBI groundout of their own.
SCSU won the game in the bottom of the tenth for the 4-3 win.
McIntosh, Raya and Haylee Redmond-Ridge (Bellflower, Calif.) each had two hits in the loss.
Freshman Emily Baxter (Bucoda, Wash.) suffered the complete game loss, collecting five strikeouts.
Game Two: Southern Conn. State scored four runs in the bottom of the third to jump out to the early lead. Dominican rallied with four runs on three hits in the top of the fifth to tie the game at 5-5. First basemen Madison Walker (Southampton, N.J.) delivered a two-run single to left field and catcher Jalaeya LaPorte (Sylmar, Calif.) followed with a two-run double to left center field.
The Lady Chargers scored the eventual game-winning run in the sixth as McIntosh hit an infield single which allowed Haggerty to score for the 5-4 win.
Walker and second basemen Toni-Jo Lopez (Sylmar, Calif.) both went 2-3 in the win.
Reliver Baxter picked up the win in two innings of work and not allowing a hit.
Dominican returns to action tomorow as they close out the season by hosting a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) doubleheader against Goldey-Beacom College.
