LADY CHARGERS DEFEAT SAINT MICHAEL'S COLLEGE

(12/16/12) The Dominican College women's basketball team improved to 6-4 overall after defeating the visiting Purple Knights of Saint Michael's College, 60-53, this afternoon in a non-conference game held on Coach Baxter Court at the Hennessy Center. Following the loss, Saint Michael's now stands at 2-8 on the season.

KC Jentzen (Pearl River, N.Y.) led two Lady Chargers in double figures with 16 points and recorded the game's only double-double with 10 rebounds.
Senior guard Lindsey Lopez* (Elmwood Park, N.J.) netted 14 points (4-4 from the charity stripe) and had a game leading five assists. Freshman Deja Gabbidon (Teaneck, N.J.) came off the bench to net nine points and eight caroms.
Saint Michael's controlled the first half of play, leading by as many as eight points (16-8) with 10:20 on the clock and held on to a 29-23 lead at the intermission.
The Purple Knights led 31-25 with 18:33 to go in the contest when the Lady Charger offense came alive with a 19-5 tear over a span of about five minutes to take the lead at 43-36. Saint Mike's came back and cut the lead to two points (48-46) with 7:19 to go but two consecutive Lady Charger baskets rebuilt a seven point advantage (53-46).
The Purple Knights came back again and cut the lead to a basket (55-53) with 3:36 on the clock, but two free throws from LaShonda Hathorne (Queens, N.Y.) and a free throw from Shannon Lavelle* (Floral Park, N.Y.) put the team ahead by five points and they went on to the 60-53 victory.
Dominican is back in action on December 31st as they host Southern Connecticut State University in a 1pm game at the Hennessy Center.
