LADY CHARGERS DOWN LIGHTNING

(2/21/15) The Dominican College women's basketball team downed the visiting Lightning of Goldey-Beacom College, 88-72, this afternoon in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) game played on Coach Baxter Court at the Hennessy Center. Today the Lady Chargers honored lone senior, Lashonda Hathorne* (Queens, N.Y.) as she played in her final home game.

Today the Lady Chargers honored lone senior, Lashonda Hathorne* (Queens, N.Y.) as she played in her final home game.
The Lady Chargers trailed, 4-3 with 17:43 to play in the first stanza when the offense pushed ahead with a 23-6 run to claim a 26-10 advantage with 9:14 on the clock. Dominican would lead by as many as 18 points in the half (40-22) before heading into the locker room ahead 46-31.
Freshman guard Rebecca Rabeiro (Midland Park, N.J.) came off the bench to score 12 points in the first half .
At half time the team honored Hathorne in a ceremony and presented her with her 1,000 point ball. She became the 25th player in Lady Charger history to join the Sue Heller 1,000 Point Club back on February 14th when she netted her 1,000th career point in the first half in a victory over University of the Sciences.
The Lightning would get the lead to seven points (56-49) with just over twelve minutes to play in the game, but a 6-2 spurt regained the double-digit lead for good en route to the 88-72 Dominican victory.
DC shot over 50% for the contest, going 35-65 (53.8%) from the floor, 7-14 (50%) from the three point arc and 11-15 (73.3%) from the free throw line in the win.
Junior Deja Gabbidon (Teaneck, N.J.) led all scorers with 25 points and completed her fourth straight double-double with an afternoon best 12 rebounds.
Lisa Bouffard (Wallkill, N.Y.) finished with 17 points and a team high five assists, while Rabeiro concluded the game with 15 points and four assists.
Hathorne finished with seven rebounds, six points and three assists.
With the win, Dominican improves to 14-13 overall and 12-6 in CACC play.
The Lady Chargers conclude the regular season on the road as they travel to nearby rival, Nyack College, this coming Tuesday night. Game time is set for 5:30 pm.
