Philadelphia, Pa. (2/27/16) The Holy Family University women's basketball team, the second seed in the South Division, netted 26 points in the fourth quarter to pull away with the 72-46 victory over Dominican College, the third seed in the North Division, in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Quarterfinal game played at Campus Center.
With the loss, Dominican ends their season with an overall record of 14-15.
The Tigers opened the game with the first 12 points when sophomore guard Rebecca Rabeiro (Midland Park, N.J.) scored a three-point basket to get the Lady Chargers on the scoreboard. She followed with an and-one play to cut the lead to 12-6 and later used a trey from Stefani Alston (West Orange, N.J.) to bring them within two points, 13-11 with just under three minutes to go. Holy Family concluded the quarter like they began it with a three for a 19-13 advantage.
Dominican trailed 29-18 with five mintes left before the break when DC went on a 6-0 run to make the score 29-24 at halftime.
A layup from All-CACC First Team pick, Déja Gabbidon (Teaneck, N.J.) with 3:35 remaining in the third frame made the score 33-37, but the Tigers went on a 9-3 quarter closing run to build up at double-digit advantage, 46-36. Dominican would get within nine points with 7:44 left in the contest, but that would be as close as they would get as Holy Family scored 26 points in the final quarter for the win.
Rabeiro and Bouffard scored 14 points a-piece in the loss, with Rabeiro adding a team best four assists.
Gabbidon finished with a game best 15 rebounds, three assists, two steals and to blocks in her final game.
Junior Aliyah Alston (Queens, N.Y.) came off the bench to score eight points in her last game.
Holy Famly advances to the semi-finals where they will take on #1N Bloomfield College this coming Thursday at 12pm. The 2016 CACC Basketball Championship Semi-Finals and Finals will be hosted by Dominican College.
