SHOT AT THE BUZZER LIFTS BEARS OVER LADY CHARGERS

(11/19/16) A three-point shot as time expired lifted the New York Institute of Technology to a 76-75 victory over the Dominican College Lady Chargers in the opening game of the 4th Annual Regina Rivera Memorial Tournament being played today and tomorrow in the Hennessy Center. In the second game of the tournament, the University of Bridgeport topped Felician University, 83-68.

(11/19/16) A three-point shot as time expired lifted the New York Institute of Technology to a 76-75 victory over the Dominican College Lady Chargers in the opening game of the 4th Annual Regina Rivera Memorial Tournament being played today and tomorrow in the Hennessy Center. In the second game of the tournament, the University of Bridgeport topped Felician University, 83-68.
Dominican opened the game with a 16-8 run and a jump shot from senior Lisa Bouffard (Wallkill, N.Y.) made the score 20-15 at the end of the first quarter.
The Lady Chargers began the second quarter on an 8-2 run capped off by a layup from freshman Jasmine Gee (Englewood, N.J.) to five the team an 11 point advantage with 6:14 on the clock. The Bears would rally to tie the game twice and hold a 35-33 edge with 33 ticks before the break. An Amanda Gordon (Teaneck, N.J.) layup with two seconds on the clock tied the score at 35-35.
NYIT would lead by as many as four points in the third frame, but DC would battle back and two free throws from junior Rebecca Rabeiro (Midland Park, N.J.) would regain a 53-52 advantage with 23 seconds left. Two free throws from the Bears would put them ahead 54-53 at the end of three quarters.
DC trailed 73-71 with 34 seconds to play when senior Stefani Alston (West Orange, N.J.) iced two free throws to re-tie the game and teammate Jacqueline Rywalt (Pleasant Valley, N.Y.) would also come up big with two shots from the foul line to give the team the lead (75-73) with seven seconds left. Following a Bear time out, the team ran a play and the game-winning three was hit as time expired for the win.
Bouffard led four Lady Chargers in double figures with a season high 20 points, three steals and added five rebounds.
Shooter Shannon McGill (Staten Island, N.Y.) finished with 12 points, all from the three point arc, while Rabeiro and Gee each netted 11 points in the loss. Rabeiro grabbed a team high eight rebounds, while Rywalt tallied a team high five assists and six caroms.
Dominican (0-4) will take on the University of Bridgeport tomorrow afternoon at 1pm.
