STRONG SECOND QUARTER LEADS PURPLE KNIGHTS OVER WOMEN'S BASKETBALL
Orangeburg, N.Y. (11/20/16) The University of Bridgeport women's basketball team used a 20-4 second quarter to defeat the Dominican College Lady Chargers, 63-48, this afternoon in the third game of the 4th Annual Regina Rivera Memorial Tournament.
Orangeburg, N.Y. (11/20/16) The University of Bridgeport women's basketball team used a 20-4 second quarter to defeat the Dominican College Lady Chargers, 63-48, this afternoon in the third game of the 4th Annual Regina Rivera Memorial Tournament.
Dominican (0-5) used a trey from junior guard Rebecca Rabeiro (Midland Park, N.J.) to give them a 9-6 advantage with 5:38 to play in the first quarter and a Jacqueline Rywalt (Pleasant Valley, N.Y.) jump shot gave them an 11-8 lead with 4:22 to go. A Purple Knight five point run put them in front, 13-11, at the end of the first quarter.
The second quarter belonged to the Purple Knights as they outscored Dominican, 20-4, to take a 33-15 lead at the break.
The Lady Chargers would offense would outscore their opponents in the final frame, 18-8, but it wouldn't be enough as Bridgeport went home with the win.
Lisa Bouffard (Wallkill, N.Y.) and Jasmine Gee (Englewood, N.J.) each netted 11 points and combined for 11 rebounds to lead Dominican.
Rywalt finished with eight points and five caroms, while Rabeiro had a team high six assists and five boards.
DC will open Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) play on November 30th when they travel to Caldwell University.
