LATIMER SCORES 25 TO LEAD LADY CHARGERS TO VICTORY OVER GOLDEN KNIGHTS

Albany, N.Y. (12/16/17) The Lady Chargers extended their winning streak to three on Saturday after a 66-56 win over the Knights from The College of St. Rose. The game marked the first of two for Dominican this weekend in the Saint Rose Holiday Classic. After starting the season 0-7, the Lady Chargers won back to back games for the for the first time this season and were in search of keeping the streak alive over the Golden Knights.
The first quarter was evenly matched with both teams going back and forth and the Lady Chargers closed out the quarter with a 17-16 lead. Khay'la Latimer (Teaneck, N.J.) led the Lady Chargers in the first quarter with six points while playing the full ten minutes of the opening quarter. Rebecca Rabeiro (Midland Park, N.J.) added three assists and three steals in the quarter.
The Golden Knights took control of the game in the second quarter by outscoring the Lady Chargers 21-13. The Golden Knights extended their lead to nine over Dominican before the Lady Chargers answered back to cut the deficit back to three. The Golden Knights finished the second quarter off strong and took a 37-30 into halftime over the Lady Chargers.
Latimer added six more points in the second quarter giving her 12 total points in the first half. Rabeiro recorded three more assists in the second quarter and one more steal giving her six assists and four steals in the first half. Karissa Birthwright led the Golden Knights in scoring with 11 points.
The Lady Chargers started off the third quarter strong by scoring the quarter's first 11 points and took back the lead. The Golden Knights answered and regained the lead with just over a minute to go in the quarter, but not before Latimer nailed a three pointer to tie the game with three seconds left sending the game to the final quarter in a 50-50 tie. Dominican had all the momentum in the fourth quarter outscoring the Golden Knights 16-6 in the final quarter propelling them to their third win of the season. Dominican took all the momentum on the back of a 9-2 run which was all the Lady Chargers needed to seal the win. The biggest difference in this game was the three-point shooting. The Lady Chargers shot 52.9% from three-point range while the Golden Knights only 7.7% going 1 of 13.
Latimer finished with 25 points which led all scorers for the game and shot 7 for 10 from beyond the three-point arc. Rabeiro finished with 12 points and added nine assists and seven steals in the win. Kyla Ramseur (Bloomfield, N.J.) also scored in double figures finishing with 11 points and Jasmine Gee (Englewood, N.J.) pulled down seven rebounds while Taylor Tomlinson (Middletown, N.Y.) pulled down eight rebounds off the bench.
The College of St. Rose Holiday Tournament will continue on Sunday for the Lady Chargers where they will meet American International College at 12:00 PM. The Lady Chargers will be looking for their fourth win of the season as well as extending their winning streak to four games.
