PARKER SCORES 19 AS LADY CHARGERS EARN 4TH WIN OF THE SEASON

Waterbury, Conn. (12/30/17) The Lady Chargers traveled to Post University for a conference matchup with the Eagles in their first game in almost two weeks. Dominican is coming off of a loss to American International and were looking to get back into the win column. The Lady Chargers dropped their first seven games of the season but have picked themselves up since then. After going winless in their first seven, Dominican put together three wins in a row before dropping their eighth loss against American International. With one game left before the calendar flips to 2018, the Lady Chargers were seeking the opportunity to earn a conference win on the road.
The Lady Chargers jumped out to an early lead and held the lead by the end of the first quarter by a score of 15-10. Dominican continued their strong play in the first half by taking momentum into the second quarter by jumping out to their largest lead of the half which was 13 points. The Eagles were able to cut into the lead before halftime by making it a nine-point game at the break.
The Lady Chargers, as a team, shot 61.5% from the field while the Eagles shot 11 of 37 for 29.7%. Three-point shooting for the Eagles was no better as they made 4 of 15 from beyond the arc for 26.7%. Alpreshia Parker (Pocono Summit, Pa.) led all scorers at the half reaching double figures with 10 points. Parker made the only two three pointers for the Lady Chargers in the half. Taylor Nelson (Piscataway, N.J.) added nine points in the half while Taylor Tomlinson (Middletown, N.Y.) scored eight points off the bench for the Lady Chargers.
The third quarter was an evenly matched quarter with both teams scoring the same amount of points by quarter's end. The closest the Eagles were able to get to the Lady Chargers was five points. The Lady Chargers took a 54-45 lead into the fourth quarter and were ten minutes away from their fourth win of the season. Dominican extended out to their largest lead of the game in the fourth quarter which was 14.
The Eagles were unable to stop the Lady Charger's strong effort on offense and could not close the gap enough to put pressure on Dominican. The Lady Chargers closed out the win by not allowing the Eagles to have the lead at any point in the game. Dominican came out on top for their fourth win of the season and third in conference play by a score of 78-67.
With the win, the Lady Chargers improved to 4-8 (3-1 CACC) and will enjoy some time off for the New Year. As a team, the Lady Chargers finished shooting 58% from the field and outscored the Eagles 36-28 in the paint. Dominican also used getting to the free throw line as an advantage shooting 80% in the second half.
The Lady Chargers had four players in double-figures for the game with Parker finishing with a team high 19 points. Tomlinson finished with 12 while Nelson contributed 11 points in the win. Ciera Rivera (Pomona, N.Y.) scored 10 points rounding out the four players scoring 10 points or more in the win.
The Lady Chargers will be back in action on Saturday January 6th when the host Caldwell University at 1:00 PM for their first game of the 2018 calendar year.
