Orangeburg, N.Y. (1/10/18) The Holy Family University Tigers hung on for a 56-53 victory this evening over the Dominican College Lady Chargers in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest played on Coach Baxter Court in the Hennessy Center.
Orangeburg, N.Y. (1/10/18) The Holy Family University Tigers hung on for a 56-53 victory this evening over the Dominican College Lady Chargers in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest played on Coach Baxter Court in the Hennessy Center.
The Tigers (4-11, 3-4 CACC) led 15-7 following the first quarter and extended their lead to 29-13 with 3:34 to play in the second. Dominican (5-9. 4-2 CACC) fought back with the half's final nine points to cut the deficit to 31-23 at the intermission.
Holy Family rebuilt a double-digit lead in the third quarter with consecutive free throws to gain the 48-34 edge with under four minutes left and led 49-38 heading into the final 10 minutes of action.
Trailing 52-45 with just six and a half minutes on the clock, the Lady Chargers rallied with eight straight points with Taylor Tomlinson's (Middletown, N.Y.) jumper to give DC the lead, 53-52 with 47 ticks remaining. A Tiger jump shot regained a 54-53 lead with 17 seconds left and Katie O'Hara closed out the game with two free throws for Holy Family to lead them to the 56-53 win.
Sophomore Jasmine Gee (Englewood, N.J.) led all scorers with 15 points (7-11 from the floor) and added five rebounds in the loss.
Rebecca Rabeiro (Midland Park, N.J.) recorded 11 points, seven rebounds and six assists. Tomlinson came off the bench to score 11 points and seven rebounds.
Casey Thomas paced the Tigers with 12 points and eight rebounds. Jada Smith grabbed a night best 12 boards.
Dominican goes on the road this coming Saturday as they travel to the University of the Sciences in CACC action.
