GRIFFINS HOLD OFF DOMINICAN AFTER SLOW START

Philadelphia, Pa. (1/16/18) The Lady Chargers entered Tuesday's game against Chestnut Hill College looking to get back into the win column after dropping their last two games. Dominican, now 5-11 (4-4 CACC), have lost their three straight games making this streak their longest since dropping their first eight games of the season. Chestnut Hill entered the game against the Lady Chargers in first place in the south division of the conference and are winners of their last five games.
Dominican started out strong in the first quarter by jumping out to a ten-point lead on the back of nine straight points. The Griffins finished the quarter strong by cutting the lead to 23-17. The Griffins then used a strong defensive effort in the second quarter to take the lead heading into halftime by a score of 34-31. The Griffins shot 38.2% from the field in the half and held the Lady Chargers to just eight points in the second quarter to get back into the game and eventually took the lead.
Jaeda Wildgoose led her team and all scorers by recording 14 total points in the half as well as recording nine rebounds in 15 minutes. For Dominican, Ciera Rivera (Pomona, N.Y.) scored a team high eight points and made 2 of 2 three-point shots. Rivera also led her team with four rebounds as well as four assists. Dominican shot 42.4% from the field and 37.5% from three-point range in the first half and did not record a free throw. The Griffins were able to get to the free throw line however as they 7 for 12 in free throw attempts and Wildgoose went 4 for 6 from the stripe.
The Griffins quickly jumped all over the Lady Chargers to start the third quarter by taking a ten-point lead early. Dominican was able to fight back to cut the lead back down to three but the Griffins countered once again to extend their lead back to ten. The Lady Chargers cut into the deficit before the quarter came to an end and the game went to the fourth and final quarter.
The Griffins jumped out to their largest lead of the game in the fourth quarter and it looked like they had all the momentum with time running low for the Lady Chargers. Dominican was able to cut the deficit back down to six points with less than a minute to go but the Griffins never gave the lead up and closed out the Lady Chargers for the 80-71 win.
The Griffins improved to 12-6 (8-1 CACC) and continue to hold the top spot in the south division in the conference standings. As for the Lady Chargers, they have dropped three games in a row all within the conference.
Rivera finished the game with 15 points and made all four of her shots from three-point range. Rebecca Rabeiro (Midland Park, N.J.) scored 14 points for Dominican and led the team with eight assists to go with her 14 points. Wildgoose led all scorers for the Griffins and in the game with 24 points and 13 rebounds for a double-double.
The Lady Chargers will return home to host Georgian Court University on Sunday January 21st at 1:00 PM where they will look to snap this three-game losing streak with a win.
