DOMINICAN FALLS TO PACE IN OUT OF CONFERENCE GAME
Orangeburg, N.Y. (2/3/18) The Lady Chargers are coming off of a solid win over Felician University and were set to host Pace University for an out of conference match up on Saturday.
Orangeburg, N.Y. (2/3/18) The Lady Chargers are coming off of a solid win over Felician University and were set to host Pace University for an out of conference match up on Saturday. Dominican came out strong in the game and controlled most of the momentum in the first half. Pace was able to make the adjustments needed at halftime to come back and beat Dominican for their twelfth win of the season and improved to 12-11 overall. Dominican fell to 7-14 (6-6 CACC) and were in third place coming into the game. The Lady Charger's record in the conference doesn't change with this game being out of conference.
Dominican played strong to start the game by outscoring the Setters of Pace University 16-9. The second quarter was evenly matched and the Lady Chargers maintained first half control by heading into halftime with a 29-21 lead. Pace shot 25% from the field and made one of ten from beyond the three-point line. The Lady Chargers shot 44.4% from the field. Dominican turned the ball over 12 times in the first half and it would become a bigger issue in the second half.
Jasmine Gee (Englewood, N.J.) led the team in the first half with 10 points and went 4 for 6 from the field and pulled down three rebounds. Geena Rosalbo led her team in scoring with seven in the first half. As a team, the Lady Chargers pulled down 23 rebounds in the first half and Pace pulled down 20 rebounds.
The Setters made the necessary adjustments at halftime to take all of the momentum from the Lady Chargers to start the second half. Pace outscored Dominican 21-11 in the third quarter and used a 10-0 run to start the quarter to get themselves back into the game. The Lady Chargers didn't score their first points of the third quarter until almost four minutes in. Dominican did not take care of the basketball which led to Pace's comeback. The Setters held a two-point lead heading into the final quarter.
Pace held Dominican to just nine points in the fourth and final quarter which helped them secure the win by a final score of 57-49. Gee finished the game with 10 points and eight rebounds in the loss. Taylor Tomlinson (Middletown, N.Y.) also score 10 points for Dominican and pulled down a team high 10 rebounds.
The game was a tale of two halves where the Lady Chargers shot well from the field in the first half and only shot 30.4% in the second half. Dominican's turnovers gave Pace their chance to comeback with 26 total for the game along with their offensive struggle lost them the game. Dominican will be back in action on Wednesday February 7th when they visit Caldwell University at 5:30 PM for their second match up with the Cougars this season and will look to bounce back from the loss to Pace University.
