DOMINICAN FALLS TO POST IN BACK AND FORTH BATTLE
Orangeburg, N.Y. (2/13/18) The Lady Chargers hosted the Eagles of Post University on Tuesday night in search of building off of their recent win over Wilmington on Saturday.
Orangeburg, N.Y. (2/13/18) The Lady Chargers hosted the Eagles of Post University on Tuesday night in search of building off of their recent win over Wilmington on Saturday. For the Lady Chargers, this game is the second of a three game home stand. With the season quickly coming to an end, every game down the stretch is important. Dominican, 8-16 (7-8 CACC), is currently hanging on to the third spot in the north division of the conference standings. The Eagles, 6-16 (5-11 CACC), were looking to keep up in the division standings as they are on the outside looking in behind Felician who currently holds the final playoff spot. The Lady Chargers will play Felician on Thursday.
In a back and forth game, the Lady Chargers came out strong in the first quarter against the Eagles. Both teams played an even game with the score 13-12 Post after the first quarter. Post then took a 27-23 lead into halftime by outscoring Dominican 14-11 in the second quarter.
Lauren Chambers led all scorers in the first half with 12 points going six for nine from the field. Meaghan Gotham pulled down 9 rebounds in the half for the Eagles which led the half for both teams. Teammate Jasmyne Fogle pulled down 6 rebounds and as a team the Eagles outrebounded the Dominican 28-22.
Alpreshia Parker (Pocono Summit, Pa.) scored eight points in the half for Dominican which led the team including going two for two from three-point range. Taylor Tomlinson (Middletown, N.Y.) scored six points and pulled down a team high seven rebounds while Ciera Rivera (Pomona, N.Y.) recorded six rebounds. Jasmine Gee (Englewood, N.J.) had four blocked shots in the half. The Lady Chargers as a team were perfect from the free throw line going six for six and shot three of six from three-point range.
The Eagles extended out to their largest lead of the game which was seven points at the half way point of the third quarter. Dominican used a 10-0 run to get back into the game and regain the lead over the Eagles by three points. The Lady Chargers ended the third quarter with a one point lead. Both teams played a back and forth fourth quarter but the Eagles were able to control the game down the stretch to secure the 56-51 lead.
Tomlinson finished the game with 12 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Lady Chargers in both categories. Rivera finished with nine rebounds and Parker added 11 points and five rebounds in the loss. Rebecca Rabeiro (Midland Park, N.J.) scored nine points by going three for six from three-point range. Gee finished the game with eight points and three rebounds.
The Lady Chargers will look to bounce back against Felician University on Thursday at 5:30 PM when their three-game home stand comes to an end.
