Wilmington, Del. (2/17/18) The Lady Chargers earned a dominating win over the Lightning of Goldey-Beacom on Saturday. Coming off of back to back losses, the Lady Chargers were looking to get back into the win column. Dominican improved to 9-17 (8-9 CACC) and are currently holding sole possession of third place in the north division standings of the CACC conference. Dominican entered today's conference game with only three games left to play in the 2017-2018 season. After today's win, the Lady Chargers will have one more home game and then one more away game to close out the regular season.
Early on in the first quarter, both teams played at an even pace and Dominican finished the quarter on top by a score of 17-14. The Lady Chargers took control of the momentum in the second quarter by shutting out the Lightning for almost eight minutes. The Lady Chargers scored the quarter's first 10 points to jump out in front of the Lightning by thirteen points. The Lightning earned their first two points of the quarter with only 2:41 left and finished the quarter with only three points. Dominican entered halftime with a ten-point lead.
In the first half, Dominican had three players with six points each. Taylor Tomlinson (Middletown, N.Y.), Jasmine Gee (Englewood, N.J.), and Khay'la Latimer (Teaneck, N.J.) all finished the first half with six points. Tomlinson pulled down four rebounds in a strong half. Taylor Nelson (Piscataway, NJ) also finished the half with four rebounds in the half alongside Tomlinson. Dominican shot 42.3% in the first half while the Lightning struggled in the half by shooting only 24% and only scored three points in the second quarter.
The Lady Chargers got off to a quick start in the second half by scoring the first eleven points of the third quarter. Dominican kept the strong play going against the Lightning by outscoring Goldey-Beacom 19-12 in the quarter and entered the final quarter with a 46-29 lead over the Lightning.
Dominican reached their largest lead of the game which was 23 points over the Lightning and cruised to a 60-39 win. With the loss, Goldey-Beacom falls to 8-18 (6-11 CACC) as teams enter the final week of the regular season. Dominican finished the game shooting 50% from the field in the win while the Lightening only shot 29.2% from the field and 15% from three-point range going 3 for 20. The Lady Chargers went 3 for 10 from three-point range.
Gee finished the game with 14 points to lead the Lady Chargers in the win while Rebecca Rabeiro (Midland Park, N.J.) finished with 12 points and Alpreshia Parker (Pocono Summit, Pa.) scored 10 points. Renee Briggs (Cornwall, N.Y.) added nine points in the win.
The Lady Chargers will host Concordia College on Senior Night on Wednesday February 21st at 5:30 PM for their final home game of the 2017-2018 regular season.
