DOMINICAN COMPLETES SEASON SWEEP OVER NYACK IN REGULAR SEASON FINALE
Nyack, N.Y. (2/24/18) The Lady Chargers traveled to Nyack College to play their final game of the 2017-2018 season against the Warriors.
Nyack, N.Y. (2/24/18) The Lady Chargers traveled to Nyack College to play their final game of the 2017-2018 season against the Warriors. Dominican defeated Nyack back in December at home and were looking to complete the season sweep and end the season with a win. The Lady Chargers have won their passed two games and are poised to end the season strong. Dominican, 11-17 (10-9 CACC), will now play Jefferson on Tuesday February 27th for the first round of the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference playoffs.
Dominican started off strong in the first quarter by scoring 19 points over the Warriors and were in control from the beginning of the game. The Lady Chargers continued their strong play into the second quarter by extending out to a 14-point lead over the Warriors. The Warriors cut back into the deficit to single digits before halftime. The Lady Chargers took a 36-27 lead into the break.
Rebecca Rabeiro (Midland Park, N.J.) and Alpreshia Parker (Pocono Summit, Pa.) each scored eight points in the first half. Rabeiro added three assists in the half to go along with her strong effort. Jasmine Gee (Englewood, N.J.) finished the half with six points by shooting three for three from the field. Gee pulled down two rebounds and recorded one block. Ciera Rivera (Pomona, N.Y.) led the Lady Chargers in rebounds with five and recorded four assists.
Dominican, as a team, shot 48.4% from the field and made half their free throws which propelled them to a first half lead. Nyack shot 12 for 14 from the free throw line for 85.7% as a team. Bryanna Brown scored 12 points in the first half to lead the Warriors in scoring.
The Warriors came out of the break playing strong by outscoring the Lady Chargers 22-14 in the third quarter to get back into the game. The Warriors cut into the Dominican lead and were only down a point by the end of the third quarter by a score of 50-49.
Dominican used a 13-3 run to jump back out in front over the Warriors by double-digits to start the fourth quarter. The Lady Chargers jumped out to their largest lead of the game over the Warriors and cruised to a victory in the fourth quarter and shut down the Warriors for their 11th win of the season and 10th win in the conference on the season. Dominican outscored the Warriors 22-9 in the final quarter.
Parker, Gee and Taylor Tomlinson (Middletown, N.Y.) finished with the team lead in points with 14 in the win. Rabeiro finished the game with 13 points and 10 rebounds for a double-double performance in the win.
Dominican ended the regular season off strong with a win and will need to take this momentum into the first round of the playoffs. Dominican will travel to Jefferson University on Tuesday to start the CACC playoffs.
