LADY CHARGERS DEFEAT BLOOMFIELD FOR SECOND STRAIGHT WIN
Orangeburg, N.Y. (1/22/19) The Dominican College Lady Chargers women’s basketball team defeated the Bears of Bloomfield College by a score of 68-56.
Orangeburg, N.Y. (1/22/19 The Dominican College Lady Chargers women's basketball team defeated the Bears of Bloomfield College by a score of 68-56. With the win, the Lady Chargers improved to 8-9 (6-2 CACC). The Bears fall to 4-14 (3-6 CACC) on the season.
The first quarter ended in a tie with both teams recording 16 points each to open the game. Dominican opened up a big lead over Bloomfield in the second quarter by outscoring the Bears 23-11. The Lady Chargers took a 39-27 lead into halftime.
Jasmine Gee (Englewood, N.J.) led the Lady Chargers in the first half with 10 points and pulled down three rebounds. Naabea-Janaan Assibey-Bonsu (Central Islip, N.Y.) contributed eight points on four for four shooting from the field and four rebounds for Dominican. Korina Guerra (White Plains, N.Y.) scored seven points and recorded four steals and three rebounds.
Jaylah Bennett and Deja McKenzie each scored five points in the first half to lead the Bears. McKenzie also recorded five rebounds for the Bears.
Dominican opened the second half with a strong third quarter and extended out to their largest lead of the game which was 23 points. DC outscored the Bears in the third quarter 20-11. In the fourth quarter, the Bears outscored DC 18-9, but the Lady Chargers were able to secure the victory.
Gee finished the game and led the Lady Chargers with 18 points and five rebounds in the win. Guerra finished the game with 13 points, five steals, and three rebounds. Samantha McClutchy (Washington Township, N.J.) led the team in rebounds with 12 and also added five points.
Catilin Townes led the Bears with 11 points while Deja McKenzie and Ilysia Lewis each finished the game with nine points. McKenzie also recorded seven rebounds in the game. Bennett scored eight points and Paige Perminter scored seven points.
The Lady Chargers will be back in action this Sunday, January 27th when they visit the Tigers of Holy Family University. The game is scheduled to begin at 1:00 PM.
