WOMEN'S BASKETBALL EDGES HOLY FAMILY IN OT
Philadelphia, Pa. (1/27/19) The Dominican College women’s basketball team edged the Tigers of Holy Family University in overtime by a score of 66-59.
Philadelphia, Pa. (1/27/19) The Dominican College women's basketball team edged the Tigers of Holy Family University in overtime by a score of 66-59. The win improved the Lady Chargers' record to 9-9 (7-2 CACC) and is DC's third straight win. The Tigers fall to 6-11 (4-5 CACC) on the season.
The Tigers opened up the game with a strong first quarter and took a 13-7 lead into the second quarter. Holy Family took a 23-16 lead into halftime over the Lady Chargers.
Molly Masciantonio led the Tigers in the first half by scoring nine points and six rebounds. Ege-Ly Viirmaa contributed six points and three assists in the first half for the Tigers.
Alpreshia Parker (Pocono Summit, Pa.) scored nine points in the opening half for DC and also pulled down three rebounds. Samantha McClutchy (Washington Township, N.J.) recorded six rebounds while Korina Guerra (White Plains, N.Y.) recorded four rebounds in the opening half.
DC took over the lead in the third quarter by outscoring the Tigers 23-15 and took a 39-38 lead into the final quarter. The fourth quarter was a close back and forth quarter between both teams.
There were four lead changes between both teams in the final quarter. DC held a three-point lead with 25 seconds remaining. Katie O'Hare made a three-pointer to tie the game and would send the game to OT.
DC jumped out to a quick led in the OT period and never lost the lead on their way to victory over the Tigers.
McClutchy led the Lady Chargers with 16 points and recorded 16 rebounds for a double-double in the win. Jasmine Gee (Englewood, N.J.) finished the game with 12 points and four rebounds. Parker finished with 11 points and recorded five rebounds.
Guerra scored eight points and recorded five rebounds and added two assists and one steal. Kyla Ramseur (Bloomfield, N.J.) scored six points and pulled down five rebounds and added four assists and two steals.
For the Tigers, Masciantonia led the way with 14 points and recorded seven rebounds. Viirmaa finished with 13 points, four assists, and three rebounds.
The Lady Chargers will return home on Saturday, February 2nd when they host the University of the Sciences at 1:00 PM.
