LADY CHARGERS EARN FOURTH STRAIGHT WIN OVER POST
Waterbury, Conn. (2/23/19) The Dominican College women’s basketball team defeated the Eagles of Post University by a score of 72-60.
Waterbury, Conn. (2/23/19) The Dominican College women's basketball team defeated the Eagles of Post University by a score of 72-60. The Lady Chargers win their fourth straight game and still hold the top seed in the north division of the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC). The Lady Chargers improve to 14-12 (12-5 CACC), while the Eagles fall to 12-13 (8-9 CACC).
The opening quarter was a back and forth quarter with the Lady Chargers holding a three-point lead going to the second quarter. DC continued their strong play in the second quarter and went into halftime with a 30-25 lead.
Korina Guerra (White Plains, N.Y.) scored 11 points in the opening half for DC while Jasmine Gee (Englewood, N.J.) added eight points all in the first quarter.
Melanie Polanco led the Eagles with six points in the first half. Gabriela Middleton and Lauren Chambers each added five points in the opening half.
In the third quarter, the Eagles regained the lead for the first time since the halfway mark in the second quarter. DC answered back to regain the lead heading into the final quarter by a score of 47-44.
The Lady Chargers used a big fourth quarter to pull away from the Eagles and secure the victory. DC extended out to their largest lead of the game which was 17 by using a 13-4 run to help close out the Eagles.
Guerra led the way for DC with 20 points and six rebounds while Gee added 19 points and four rebounds. Ciera Rivera (Pomona, N.Y.) added nine points in the win and Samantha McClutchy (Washington Township, N.J.) scored eight points. Khay'la Latimer (Teaneck, N.J.) contributed seven points and four rebounds.
Melanie Polanco scored 18 points to lead the Eagles. Jessica DeGree added eight points as well as a team-leading 11 rebounds. Sha'Raya Haines scored nine points while Gabriela Middleton finished the game with eight points and six rebounds.
With two games remaining for the 2018-2019 regular season, the Lady Chargers will look to continue their strong play when they return home to play host to the Golden Falcons of Felician University on Wednesday, February 27th at 5:30 PM.
