WOMEN'S BASKETBALL DROPS SEASON OPENER TO GEORGIAN COURT UNIVERSITY
Lakewood, N.J. (1/28/21) The Dominican College Women’s Basketball team dropped their 2021 season opener to the Lions of Georgian Court University by a score of 76-69.
Lakewood, N.J. (1/28/21) The Dominican College Women's Basketball team dropped their 2021 season opener to the Lions of Georgian Court University by a score of 76-69. The game was also the first Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) game of the season for both teams.
DC falls to 0-1 (0-1 CACC) and GCU opens the season 1-0 (1-0 CACC).
The Lions played a strong opening quarter and held a double-digit lead after the first ten minutes of play. GCU extended their lead to 17 points by halftime.
GCU extended out to their largest lead of the game, which was 29 points in the third quarter, but DC made a strong push to cut the deficit to 17 points by the end of the quarter.
The Lady Chargers continued to close the gap in the fourth quarter and with just over two minutes to play, DC trailed GCU by six points.
DC's comeback fell short as the Lions were able to answer and not give up the lead on their way to the 76-69 win.
Jasmine Gee (Englewood, N.J.) was the team-leader in points in the loss with 15 and also added three rebounds. Khay'la Latimer (Teaneck, N.J.) added 11 points, five rebounds, and four assists. Jaid Harrell (Kingston, N.Y.) provided 10 points, eight rebounds, and three steals off the bench.
Taylor Tomlinson (Middletown, N.Y.) recorded a double-double with 10 points and a team-leading 12 boards. Tomlinson also recorded three blocks.
For the Lions, Hanna Thrainsdottir finished with a game-high 22 points and added 10 rebounds for a double-double. Jariah Patterson added 18 points, four rebounds, and three assists.
Anyssa Fields also recorded a double-double by scoring 17 points and recorded 11 rebounds. Tian Anderson scored nine points and recorded a team-high four assists.
The Lady Chargers will look to bounce back on Saturday, January 30th when they host St. Thomas Aquinas College at 1:00 P.M. for their home opener.
