COMEBACK EFFORT FALLS SHORT AS DOMINICAN SUFFERS FIRST CONFERENCE LOSS

Dominican's fourth quarter comeback fell short as the Lightning handed the Lady Chargers their first conference loss.
The Lady Chargers drop to 8-6 overall and 4-1 in conference play.
Both teams played an even first quarter but the Lightning ended the opening frame on a 10-0 run to take a 23-14 lead into the second quarter.
The Lightning finished the second quarter with their largest lead of the first half over the Lady Chargers which was 13 for a 43-30 advantage at halftime.
GBC opened the third quarter on a 14-0 run over the first four minutes of the quarter to extend to their largest lead of the game which was 27 points. Chidinma Ndukauba (Brooklyn, N.Y.) ended the run with a jumper at the 5:59 mark.
The Lady Chargers finished the third quarter off strong by outscoring GBC 16-11 but still trailed 68-46 by the start of the fourth quarter.
Dominican put up a big 29 points in the fourth quarter. Kristen Teklits (New Fairfield, Conn.) led the comeback effort with 15 points in the quarter all from three-point range. Dominican outscored the Lightning 24-10 to cut the deficit to single digits.
Dominican would pull within four points of the Lightning late in the quarter but GBC was able to hold on and secure the victory.
Teklits finished with a career high 22 points on 7-16 from beyond the arc including one made free-throw. Teklits also added six rebounds. Olivia Levy (Stony Point, N.Y.) finished with a team-high seven boards and scored 14 points.
Alexis Suarez (Poughquag, N.Y.) added 13 points, six rebounds, and six assists. Tanasha Mills (New City, N.Y.) and Cayla Howard (Naugatuck, Conn.) each scored nine points. Mills recorded a team-high 12 assists while Howard added four boards.
The Lady Chargers will return to action on Wednesday, January 4th when they travel to the University of New Haven for a non-conference game at 5:30 PM.
