#8 SEED LADY CHARGERS FALL TO #1 SEED ASSUMPTION UNIVERSITY IN THE OPENING ROUND OF THE NCAA REGIONAL TOURNAMENT
Worcester, Mass. (3/10/23) The Dominican University New York women’s basketball team played in the first round of the 2023 NCAA Division II Women’s Basketball Regional Tournament against host Assumption University.

The #1 seed Greyhounds advanced the the second round after defeating the #8 seed Lady Chargers by a score of 71-49.
The Lady Chargers were led by Chidinma Ndukauba (Brooklyn, N.Y.) who scored a team-high 13 points and added five boards. Alexis Suarez (Poughquag, N.Y.) added nine points and six rebounds. Suarez also added five steals and three assists.
Cayla Howard (Naugatuck, Conn.) also finished with nine points and six rebounds while Tanasha Mills (New City, N.Y.) finished with nine points. Olivia Levy (Stony Point, N.Y.) finished with six points, four rebounds, two assists, and a team-high six steals.
The Greyhounds were led by Molly Stokes who scored a game-high 26 points including 3-7 from beyond the arc. Marina Callahan finished with 13 points, seven rebounds, and five assists.
Monica Spain recorded a team-high eight boards while Teagan Curran provided 10 points off the bench.
The Lady Chargers started the game off strong on a 9-0 run. The Greyhounds used a 9-0 run to comeback and tie the game late in the opening quarter. The Greyhounds finished the quarter by jumping in front of Dominican 14-12.
In the second quarter, Assumption jumped out to an eight-point lead before the Lady Chargers closed the gap and cut the deficit back to three points. The Greyhounds never lost the lead and held a 24-19 advantage by halftime.
The Greyhounds extended to a nine-point lead in the third quarter. Dominican finished off the third quarter strong with a 10-3 run and pulled within two points by the start of the fourth quarter.
The Lady Chargers tied the game to start the fourth quarter on a basket by Ndukauba. The Greyhounds answered with an 11-0 run to extend their lead to double digits.
Dominican cut the deficit back to seven points before the Greyhounds used a 17-2 run to extend to their largest lead of the game on their way to the 71-49 victory.
