WOMEN'S BASKETBALL FALLS TO SPARTANS
Sparkill, N.Y. (11/11/23) The Dominican University New York women's basketball team wrapped up play at the 2023 STAC Challenge with a 79-70 loss to the host in a game played in Aquians Hall.
With the loss Dominican falls to 0-2 on the season.
Guard Alexis Suarez (Poughquag, N.Y.) led four Lady Chargers in double figures with 16 points, five assists and five rebounds.
Angelina DiMarsico (Stony Point, N.Y.) added 15 points, while Keylee Harrison (Newport News, Va.) contributed 14 points, a team best seven rebounds and two steals.
Sophomore Cayla Howard (Nagatuck, Conn.) scored 10 points.
Dominican used an 8-2 run in the first quarter to take a 15-10 advantage with under a minute left. A Spartan layup cut the lead to 15-12 at the end of the quarter.
A DiMarsico trey with four and a half minutes left before the intermission made the score 30-26, but eight straight STAC points gave them a 34-30 lead. DiMarsico closed out the first half iwth a three-point basket to make the score 34-33 at the break.
The Lady Chargers played a tough third quarter and even regained a three-point lead (46-43) with two and half minutes left but an 8-4 Spartan run put them ahead, 51-50.
STAC never relinquished the lead during the final 10 minutes of play to take home the 79-70 win.
Dominican returns to action on Sunday, November 19th when they host Franklin Pierce University for the 10th Annual Regina Rivera Memorial Game on Coach Baxter Court in the Hennessy Center.
