SECOND HALF COMEBACK EFFORT FALLS SHORT AS MOUNTAINEERS TOP LADY CHARGERS
Orangeburg, N.Y. (11/20/23) The Dominican University New York women's basketball team had their second half comeback effort fall short to Mansfield University in non-conference action.
The Mountaineers held off Dominican's strong fourth quarter to secure the victory.
The Lady Chargers fall to 0-4 overall on the season while the Mountaineers improve to 3-1 overall.
Cayla Howard (Naugatuck, Conn.) finished with a career high 22 points including a perfect 7-7 from the free-throw line. Howard also recorded a team-high five steals. Angelina DiMarsico (Stony Point, N.Y.) scored 18 points including a team-high three three-pointers.
Chidinma Ndukauba (Brooklyn, N.Y.) scored 11 points and recorded a team-high nine boards while Isabella Javier (Bergenfield, N.J.) added nine points.
Jasmine Hilton scored a team-high 20 points for Mansfield and pulled down a team-high nine boards. Alivia Paeglow scored 17 points on 8-10 shooting. Kristen Fulford scored 11 points and recorded a team-high nine assists.
The Mountaineers got off to a fast start by outscoring the Lady Chargers 25-10 in the opening quarter. Mansfield followed up the first quarter with 20 points in the second quarter and took a 20-point lead into halftime.
The Lady Chargers played a strong third quarter out of break with Howard and Ndukauba combining for 14 of their 16 points in the quarter but still trailed by 20-points heading into the fourth.
The Lady Chargers opened the fourth quarter on a 13-0 run to cut the deficit to seven points. Dominican continued their strong fourth quarter with DiMarsico scoring 12 points in the quarter going 3-3 from three-point range. Javier scored nine points in the quarter while Howard scored seven.
The Mountaineers were able to hold off the comeback effort and secure the win.
The Lady Chargers return to action this weekend when they compete in the Felician University Holiday Tournament.
