LADY CHARGERS TURN BACK KNIGHTS
Rutherford, N.J. (11/26/23) The Dominican University New York women's basketball team defeated the Queens College Knights, 51-47, this afternoon in the finale of the Felician University Holiday Classic, hosted by the Golden Falcons in Job Gymnasium.
With the win Dominican improves to 2-4 overall, while the Knights fall to 2-5 on the season.
Sophomore guard Cayla Howard (Naugatuck, Conn.) led Dominican with 18 points (8-13 from the floor) and seven rebounds.
Chidinma Ndukauba (Brooklyn, N.Y.) pulled down a team best 11 rebounds to go along with nine points, while Alexis Suarez (Poughquag, N.Y.) dished out a game best seven assists, three steals and eight points.
The Lady Chargers led 32-23 at the break, but the Knights scored 17 points in the third quarter to pull in front 40-39. Queens continued the run with the first point of the fourth frame for the 41-39 advantage, but Dominican countered with an 8-2 run to retake a 47-43 lead with a little over a minute remaining in regulation and went on to the 51-47 victory.
Dominican scored 17 points off 22 Knight turnovers and outscored the Knights in the paint, 28-18. DUNY would lead by as many as 12 points (32-20) with 37 seconds left in the second quarter.
The Lady Chargers return to action on Wednesday evening when they host the University of Bridgeport on Coach Baxter Court in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC).
