LADY CHARGERS TURNED AWAY BY EAGLES
Waterbury, Conn. (12/2/23) The Dominican University New York women's basketball team fell in conference action to the Eagles of Post University this afternoon in a rematch of last season's CACC Tournament Final at the Drubner Center in Waterbury, Conn.
With the loss, the Lady Chargers fall to 2-6 overall and 0-2 in conference play. Post improves to 3-4 overall and 1-0 in the CACC.
Cayla Howard (Naugatuck, Conn.) finished with another career game by scoring a career high 30 points on 10-17 shooting from the field. Howard also hit 8 of 12 of her free-throw attempts and pulled down five boards.
Ashley Schmitt (Staten Island, N.Y.) added 11 points and recorded four boards and three assists. Tamia Nunes (Worcester, Mass.) scored nine points and shared a team-high in rebounds with six while Chidinma Ndukauba (Brooklyn, N.Y.) also pulled down six rebounds and scored eight points.
Angelina DiMarsico (Stony Point, N.Y.) finished with nine points and added five rebounds, two assists, and two steals.
After an even first quarter, the Eagles jumped out in front by outscoring Dominican 22-13 in the second quarter and led 42-33 by halftime.
After the third quarter, Post maintained a double-digit lead over the Lady Chargers and extended to their largest lead of the game in the fourth quarter which was 20 points.
Dominican climbed back into the game by cutting the deficit to single digits on an 18-7 run but ran out of time as Post secured the win.
The Eagles were led by Dede Stevenson who finished with 20 points, six assists, and five rebounds. Taina Pagan and Trinity Bravo each scored 14 points while Maya Klein scored 13 points. Bravo recorded a team-high nine rebounds.
The Lady Chargers will look to bounce back next Saturday, December 9th when they return home to host Pace University for a non-conference contest at 12:00 PM.
