TIGERS TRIP UP LADY CHARGERS
Orangeburg, N.Y. (12/16/23) The Dominican University New York women's basketball team fell in non-conference action to the visitng Tigers of Holy Family University, 75-57, this afternoon in a game played on Coach Baxter Court in the Hennessy Center.
Following the contest, the Lady Chargers now sit at 2-8 on the season, while the Tigers improve to 10-1.
Guard Alexis Suarez (Poughquag, N.Y.) led three players in double figures with 18 points, four rebounds, three assists and three steals.
Freshman guard Isabella Javier (Bergenfield, N.J.) scored a career high 15 points, going 6-10 from the floor and 3-5 from the three-point arc.
Chidinma Ndukauba (Brooklyn, N.Y.) netted 12 points, pulled down a team best seven rebounds, three blocks and two steals. Ashley Schmitt (Staten Island, N.Y.) chipped in seven points and three steals in the loss.
First quarter action was a seesaw battle with the Lady Chargers holding the biggest advantage, 6-2, on back-to-back layups from Suarez and Ndukauba with 8:01 left. Ndukauba would net the final basket of the frame to knot the score at 15-15.
The second quarter belonged to the Tigers as they scored 29 points to Dominican's nine to take a 44-24 lead into the locker room at the intermission.
Holy Family would hold their biggest advantage, 53-27, with 3:29 left in the third quarter and went to the victory. The Lady Chargers put 20 points on the board in the final quarter with Suarez netting eight points.
Dominican returns to action on December 30th when they host Southern Connecticut State University in non-conference action.
