EAGLES OUTLAST LADY CHARGERS
Orangeburg, N.Y. (2/6/24) The Dominican University women's basketball team dropped a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) North Division contest to the visiting Eagles of Post University, 64-61, this evening in a game played on Coach Baxter Court in the Hennessy Center.
Following the loss the Lady Chargers now stand at 9-11 overall and 6-5 in CACC play, while the Eagles improve to 13-7 overall and 8-2 in the conference.
Guard Angelina DiMarsico (Stony Point, N.Y.) led three Dominican players in double figures with 15 points an four rebounds.
Tamia Nunes (Worcester, Mass.) pulled down a career high 10 caroms to go along with 13 points and three steals, while Chidinma Ndukauba (Brooklyn, N.Y.) contributed the team's second double-double of 11 points and a team best 12 boards in the loss.
Red-shirt junior Tanasha Mills (New City, N.Y.) dished out a game best seven assists, nine points and four rebounds. Teammate Alexis Suarez (Poughquag, N.Y.) added nine points, three steals and three rebounds.
The game opened with the Eagles holding a 7-3 lead mid-way through the first quarter, but the Lady Chargers rallied with a 10-1 closing period run to push ahead, 13-8.
Dominican opened the second quarter with a layup from Ndukauba to give them their biggest lead of the contest, 15-8. An 8-1 swing by Post regained a 17-16 advantage and Trinity Bravo closed out the first half with the final seven points to give her team a 30-23 lead at the break.
Freshman Isabella Javier (Bergenfield, N.J.) rebuilt a two-point advantage (43-41) for Dominican on a trey with 3:21 left in the third, but Bravo once again came through for the Eagles with the final six points of the quarter to regain a 47-43 lead.
DiMarsico would bring DUNY within two points (63-61) on three consecutive free-throws with 16 ticks on the clock, but Post concluded the scoring with a free-throw to hold on to the win.
The Lady Chargers return to action on Saturday afternoon when they travel to Holy Family University.
